Saturday racing in Victoria heads to Ladbrokes Park Hillside in what has already been a huge week of racing in the state.
The track will likely be in the Soft range and race one will commence at 12:05pm (AEST).
My four best bets are below and we should have a little bit to play with after making a small profit at Warrnambool during the week.
Sandown Racing Tips – Saturday, May 6th 2023
Race 2: Rod Fenwick Handicap - 12:40pm (AEST)
(1) BayThirteen for Matt Laurie and Carleen Hefel team up on a filly who has ridden in Group and Listed company her last couple and she will enjoy the drop in class here. She is first up and has won and placed when first up previously and on a preferred Soft 5 or 6 surface, she should be hard to beat. She won a Mornington jumpout 3 weeks ago in readiness for this and she has won over this distance before.
(3) Birdies Galore has drawn well in 2 and should not get caught wide this time as she did at Lakeside last start when 7th.
(4) Charmed Run won well at Mornington last start and is again fitter. The win was on a Soft6 which she could again get here.
(5) Tanto is consistent but is better on drier ground.
(1) Bay Thirteen - WIN
$4.20 (2 Units)
Race 4: Rod Griffiths Handicap - 1:50pm (AEST)
(3) Unflinching should win this at the short odds! The Anthony & Sam Freedman trained gelding was far too good at The Valley last over the 955m and the extra 45 here should be no issue. It’s his first start on a Soft surface which is a small concern. But overall he has won 5 from 9 starts at the Freedman’s have opted to bypass the Warrnambool carnival for an easier assignment here.
(4) Bless Her goes up 3 kilograms but is better when 2nd up. This is an easier race and she will look for one sharp run from midfield.
(7) Wolflands has won 3 from 6 over this distance and will look to go on pace again. If the race is run slowly, he has a big chance.
(10) Hello Broadcast has won over this distance and has more fitness now.
(3) Unflinching - WIN
$1.75 (4 Units)
Race 8: Catanach’s Jewellers Handicap - 4:20pm (AEST)
(10) Alverdun loves the wet tracks and if it rains on Friday or Saturday it makes his chances even better. Craig Newitt is on replacing Jordan Childs after her steered him to a win at Lakeside last start. He will likely settle midfield and barrier 6 is ideal for his chances. He has won 4 of his last 10 races and is over the odds.
(6) Marroni has no Australian form to speak of and limited NZ form available to study at the time of writing but the Forsman stable wouldn’t bring him over and start him in Saturday company if he was no good. Big watch.
(2) Pinstriped has a wide barrier in 13 but you just can’t fault him at the moment.WIth a better barrier he is almost top pick. He won easily at Lakeside last start and he has placed here previously. Hefel will have to produce something special from the draw though.
(3) Gunstock may want 1 run I reckon but is probably the best horse in the race. Loves the conditions but I’ll wait for his next start. Probably does need more distance but a placing wont surprise.
(10) Alverdun - WIN
$6.50 (1 Unit)
Race 9: Ladbrokes Racing Club Handicap - 4:53pm (AEST)
(16) Fortunate Kiss was just fair when well supported at Terang but she is fitter now and has to start showing something. She has proven she is Listed class and the stable has opted to bypass its home carnival for this race. At 21-1 she is worth a small bet after hearing she has been flying back at Warrnambool in between runs. The stable believes she is their best horse so its time now. Patrick Moloney replaces Daniel Moor.
(18) Stormbolt is 2nd emergency and is a huge chance if runs. Loves the conditions.
(12) Our Redente has a bad barrier in 20 but is racing very well. He goes well fresh and is first up here.
(8) Zorro’s Dream likes the Soft and is one of the fittest horses in the race. Has been in the money 19 of 30 starts so has to be included in the multiples.
(16) Fortunate Kiss - WIN
$21 (1 Unit)
