Sandown Racing Tips: Saturday, February 25th 2023
Race 1
(6) RIght You Are from the Maher & Eustace stable surely has the fitness edge on all of these and gets another Good surface in which he loves. He won easily last time and is only carrying 54kgs. He has won 7 from 18 starts now and will settle on speed again.
(5) Saracen Knight resumes and did trial well. He needs another few hundred metres you would think but he will have his supporters after his Geelong trial which was against some classy types.
(4) Midnight Blue is having his first run for the Leek stable and has won his two recent Pakenham jumpouts. He likes Good tracks and he wasn't disgraced over this distance in his one attempt in 2022.
(3) High Emocean is down in class and is 1 from 1 over the distance.
(1) Vow and Declare is likely only 80 to 90 percent fit but with the right run can sneak a 3rd, 4th or 5th. Better in a few starts.
(6) Right You Are WIN
$1.75 (4 Units)
Race 5
(2) Pericles hit the line well after being trapped wide at Ladbrokes Hillside last start (4th) and really should have been in the finish. He is fitter now and the extra distance should suit. He was 8th in the Victoria Derby and Jamie Kah sticks with him after his first up performance.
(1) Mr Maestro was 3rd last start and that was in the same race as Pericles. He arguably has had a more comfortable run in transit that day. Knows how to win having won 4 from 12.
(3) Hennessy Lad is fit and has won 2 from 4 on dry ground. He won well at Hillside when favourite last start and will attract a lot of support.
(7) Acosta has a wide barrier in 11 but was only half a length off Hennessy Lad last start. Has run a 2nd at the track and should be better for that effort.
(2) Pericles WIN
$3.20 (2 Units)
Race 7
(12) Steel City has drawn well in 5 and gets the blinkers on. In her 2 career starts she has run 2nd and latest effort at Rosehill was very good when beaten half a length behind Learning to Fly. Those that beat her do look to be very talented so don't be put off because she’s still a maiden. She should get a gun run for Blake Shinn and the stable does know how to win Group 1 races.
(6) The Instructor has won both starts with Jordan Childs on board and she will be up there early with her early speed from the barrier. Both times she has led in her races and if she gets sectionals to suit, she can win again.
(1) Barber is 3 from 3 including the Blue Diamond Prelude last start. Jamie Kah is on for Team Cummings and barrier 9 looks ok. 2 from 2 on the dry.
(4) Little Brose will be hitting the line hard and if they go crazy up front could get the last laugh. Does have to get around 15 others however if she gets too far back.
(12) Steel City WIN
$4.20 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(1) I’m Thunderstruck for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr is fitter now and has drawn very well in 3. Will obviously get back but this track might suit.
(2) Alligator Blood will be out on the speed but i think it gets run down over the final 100m this time.
(3) Mr Brightside will settle just in front of I’m Thunderstruck and he is 1 from 1 at this track.
(5) Aegon was unlucky last time and has won 3 from 5 over this distance. Has won 3 from 4 when 2nd up.
(1) I’m Thunderstruck WIN
$3.10 (2 Units)
Race 9
(11) Chain of Lightning has drawn well in 2 and despite likely settling worse than midfield, he has a very good turn of foot and can storm home. He ran on well for 3rd behind Lofty Strike and Uncommon James last start. He drops almost 5 kilos for this and Craig Williams takes the ride.
(15) Star Patrol loves dry ground and was a very good winner last start when coming from 4th on the turn. He has won 4 from 6 on Good tracks and has drawn alright in 9.
(5) King of Sparta was backed to win at the Gold Coast last start and saluted. Has trialed well since. Can cause a minor upset.
(8) Uncommon James has drawn poorly in 14 and if he had drawn better would have been in my top 3. He was backed to win last start when 2nd and many of those punters will stick with him despite the draw.
(11) Chain of Lightning WIN
$8 (1 Unit)
