Easter Saturday racing heads to Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside) with the highlight being the Group 3 Easter Cup which comes up in Race 8 on the program. The other Group race on the card is the Ladbrokes Handicap in Race 7, while the first race is scheduled for 12:30pm which sees one of my four best bets of the program go around; Party For One from the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr yard looks very hard to beat. The weather is fine and runners will run on a Good 4 surface.
Let’s get stuck into me best racing tips for the card at Sandown!
Sandown Racing Tips – Saturday, April 8th 2023
Race 1
(8) Party For One is on debut for her new stable but there has been some talk around her the last few days and the whispers are that she has trained on since coming over from Sydney. This looks to be an easier race than the last couple she competed in when placing in those and a Good track looks fine. Drops another kilo for this which will help.
(6) Foxicon has won 2 from 4 on Good tracks but does go to the 1200m for this first time. Definite danger and will attract serious punting.
(5) Sirene Stryker will be running on late but may give them too much to catch early. Place chance.
(3) Duchess of Dorset was 6th last start but only beaten 1.3L with Linda Meech on board at Flemington. Fitter now and should be within 2L of the winner again.
(8) Party For One - WIN
$2.80 (3 Units)
Race 5
(8) Hickok is over the odds here I reckon and I think he may be worth a small bet. He has raced in harder races than this before and been competitive and if you look back at his 2nd at Hillside 2 starts back, he was unlucky not to win there. That was from a wide barrier that day and he stormed home after being 10th at the 400m mark. He has had a freshen up and might be ready to fire.
(9) Lafargue is another who is down in class and is very fit now. Barrier 11 is a slight concern but he will likely roll forward and be a bit closer in this.
(12) Our Heidi has a good barrier in 2 and will settle around 4th in this. Gets a lovely run and should place.
(13) Red Red Wine has a good 2nd up record and is suited by the extra distance in this one. Roughie.
(8) Hickok - WIN
$17 (1 Unit)
Race 7
(9) Clemenceau has been scratched this morning so we now concentrate on (8) Pinstriped who is fitter after hitting the line well for 3rd at Flemington last start. He will give Clemceau a start and will need to seek cover during the run. He hasn’t won in his last 4 starts but has a good winning strike rate having won 3 of 7 before that. Allana Kelly is on an he has drawn well in barrier 4.
(7) Cardinal Gem goes better on rain-affected ground but is a genuine chance. He has won 3 from 8 over the 1400m and if the track was softer he would be the on top selection.
(3) Buffalo River comes into the selections now after the downgrade of the track overnight.
(6) Not an Option likes Good tracks and comes into this after a nice Flemington win where he overcame a bad barrier (12) to score.
(9) Pinstriped - WIN
$7 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(6) Barb Raider has unfortunately been scratched so (5) Lunar Flare is now a big chance but has drawn poorly in 12 so may get trapped wide early on. She has won over the distance and has won 3 from 5 when third up. Lunar Flare was a bit unlucky last start (Australia Cup) so the stable will be keen to make amends with a clear run in this.
(4) Mankayan is one of the best horses in the race but i think the track will be too firm for him to win.
(3) Right You Are is going for 6 in a row. Has won at the track but surely he can't win again?
(8) White Marlin is the likely fav and a lot of punters will have one eye on him after his excellent win on Melbourne Cup Day over 2800m. After scratchings the marlin is into $2.70 which i think is too short at this stage of his prep.
(6) Lunar Flare - WIN
$8 (1 Unit)
