Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Rosehill and Sandown Hillside on Wednesday, February 27th.
We’ve picked out our best bets from both meetings and detailed our selections below!
ROSEHILL RACING TIPS
RACE 5
Call Me Royal has returned in terrific form with two wins from as many starts this preparation. She’s led all the way at Canterbury in both starts and from barrier 15 today, she’ll be spearing across in search of the front again. Leading at Canterbury is often advantageous so there is some query coming to Rosehill after those two wins, but she’s been dominant in both and will take plenty of running down again today. Interested to see Debate first up after winning on debut at Gosford back in August. Phoenix River was luckless on debut.
RACE 6
Two at decent odds that interest me here. Scarlet Dream won two of her first three starts in her debut prep and ran 2nd in her other start, where she went down by a nose. She clearly has some ability and she resumes today with two trials under the belt. Might be looking for further than the 1400m – she won over 1880m last time we saw her – but I’m expecting her to sprint well fresh. Lady Elizabeth has run 2nd in three of her past four starts and was only beaten narrowly last start. She draws well in barrier 3 and looks an each way chance again at $9.00 with the claim for Sam Weatherley.
Also backing: Lady Elizabeth $9.00
RACE 8
Bangkok appeals on an each way basis in the last at $8.00. He resumed in a strong race behind God Of Thunder and Witherspoon and was only beaten 3L. All of his wins have come in the country but this is an easier race than he ran in first up and he’s run 2nd in both starts when second up. He’s also never finished out of the top two from four starts at the distance. Hugh Bowman looks a notable jockey booking today so with all that in mind, $8.00 looks a decent price.
SANDOWN RACING TIPS
RACE 4
He’s been beaten as the $2.60 and $2.20 favourite in two starts this preparation but Dancing Tycoon really does find a very winnable race today. He pulled up lame last start so he probably had an excuse. He was a winner at this track and distance last preparation and many of his opposition aren’t in great form. If he can get across from the wide barrier, he should be winning this.
RACE 5
Another short-priced favourite that looks to find a very suitable race is No Drama Darci. He’s had four career starts for one win and three 2nds. He won by 2.5L at Pakenham two starts back before being beaten half-a-length by Age Of Chivalry last start. That horse then came out and ran 2nd at Flemington so that form looks pretty reliable. Just has to repeat that run and should be winning here.
RACE 8
Fairly open race to finish off the card but there’s two I’ll be backing. Mount Kilcoy showed he had plenty of ability last preparation and it was when he got to 1600m-2000m that he really flourished. He’s had two starts over 1400m this preparation and finished off his race very strongly last start, running the fastest 600-400 split, the fastest 400-200 split and the second-fastest final 200m (0.01sec slower than the winner). Steps up from 1400m to 1800m now and should prove very hard to beat. Mr Monaco comes into this second up from an eight-week break. He always tends to need his first up run but he goes much better second up. He won over this track and distance last preparation and gets in fairly well at the weights here from the good draw. Expecting him to improve sharply and run a good race at double figure odds.
