Group 1 action from Rosehill Gardens in Sydney this weekend with the Coolmoore Classic over 1500m for the girls.
The track is a Soft 7 and I expect it to stay in that range despite the fine weather predicted, so wet trackers will be the theme of the day.
We have betting tips for every race on the card below.
ROSEHILL RACING TIPS
Race 1
Good little race to start the day and a tricky one at that. YOUR WAY has won four races from five starts this prep and the one he lost he was desperately unlucky. He steps up to 1350 once again here, which was the distance he was defeated at, so that is an ever so slight query, but he has the advantage of race fitness on his side as opposed to a few main rivals that are first up. Has won on both Soft and Heavy ground so no worries there, and the horse he beat last start just came out and won quite easily at Kembla. Weighted well enough to win again today. EXTENSIBLE is a very good mare and is adept on all surfaces. She's never missed a place on Soft ground, but the concern is the 60kg first up from a spell. Her fresh record is outstanding (never finished outside the top 2) so I expect her to run a big race but might find one too good. Big watch on Godolphin's SPECTROSCOPE who makes his Australian debut. Won first up last prep over 1400m by 5 lengths in France before going on to be Group 2 placed over 2000m, so the query is whether he is sharp enough over 1350m first up in the country. Godolphin are really struggling lately so prepared to take him on. Value is FLY FORWARD with just 51kg coming off two good wins in easier company.
Tip: Your Way
Race 2
Pretty keen to take on the favoured runners here with ZELADY'S NIGHT OUT who has her first start for the Peter Robl stable. She is a 3YO filly taking on the older horses and boys here but I reckon with the Soft track she might be able to topple them. She's undefeated on Soft ground and undefeated at the distance, and her recent trial was sizzling when winning by nearly 5 lengths over some talented types. Hasn't been at her best for a while now but if Robl has her back on track then she could be good enough to win with the conditions expected. $10 EW looks appealing. ARTISTRY would be a clear top pick if the ground was firm but he's not as good on Soft ground, while BALL OS MUSCLE can win but needs to bounce back from failing on heavy ground last start. DOTHRAKI is going well with solid performances behind Target In Sight and Le Romain at his past two - he looks the best of the favoured runners and is now getting to a backable price.
Tip: Zelady's Night Out EW
Race 3
Happy to take on DUCIMUS here. Think he's a good horse but typically the Sydney form is stronger than the Melbourne form and for that reason $3.30 looks a short price here. He beat home Taking Aim last start and he finished well back in the Diamond, so I'd prefer to side with CONDOR HEROES who finished behind Khan on debut in the Breeder's Plate. While Khan is going terribly at the moment, Condor Heroes has trialled really impressively, winning by nearly 8 lengths. Tim Clark jumps off Single Bullet to ride him too. SINGLE BULLET will appreciate getting onto a track that isn't a bog in my opinion. It will still be Soft, but it won't be as soaked as what he's run on his past two. His debut on Good ground was seriously impressive so if he appreciated it a little bit firmer he is a definite winning chance. Luckless last start so with a better run from the draw he will go close. CORUSCATE best of the rest.
Tip: Condor Heroes
Race 4
LIMBO SOUL was $26 into $3.20 on debut and absolutely bolted in, recording some serious speedfigures in the process. That made her a realistic chance in the Golden Slipper and she went into that run a bit soft according to the trainer so if she has improved then she is the one to beat here. SWEET DEAL had no luck when bumping into Frolic last start and that horse then came out and beat She Will Reign last weekend. Much better off from barrier 1 here and therefore rates as a live chance. ALIZEE was disappointing as the odds on favourite on debut and from all reports she is seriously talented, but I did query whether she was going to be as good on wet tracks as she might be on dry. She will face another wet track here so prepared to risk her again, although William Buick takes over from Christian Reith which is a huge plus. TULIP brings the interesting Melbourne form to Sydney and the Hayes/Dabernig 2YO's are flying so it would be no surprise to see her measure up. Value could be Waller's runner LA CHICA ROSA who should have won on debut in Melbourne.
Tip: Limbo Soul
Race 5
Still $2.10 available for ANTONIO GIUSEPPE but that won't last long and he should be winning this. He cantered in first up over 1500m and if he was going to be beaten that was going to be when. Goes straight to 2000m now where he won his only start by nearly 3 lengths. Undefeated at the track from 4 starts, draws well, gets weight off everything else and goes well on wet tracks. Best bet of the day. Look for sharp improvement from Libran on Soft ground at his third run back from a spell. MAGIC HURRICANE should be ready to peak third up too.
Tip: Antonio Giuseppe (Best Bet)
Race 6
Looks like a running double for Chris Waller here with FOXPLAY who possibly struggled in the heavy going last start after being heavily backed. Up to 1500m here but back onto a slightly firmer track will be the key. This isn't a deep field for a Group 2 race so if she bounces back from last start she looks the one to beat. BEZEL should improve on his failure first up. He pulled up with thumps on that occasion and is much better than that so prepared to forgive and go off his form from last prep. COMIC SET brings BM64 grade from Melbourne and looks a horse on the up.
Tip: Foxplay
Race 7
Group 1 Coolmoore Classic for the girls and it looks a hugely competitive race. OMEI SWORD has drawn the carpark in barrier 19 but I still think she will be too good. She settled towards the rear of the field first up when she was supposedly underdone after a setback and Waller even said himself she was vulnerable. Expect her to settle towards the rear once again from the gate, but if she's improved I think she'll win. She absolutely spanked the field first up last prep in the Silver Shadow before bumping into Astern in the Golden Rose, when she really should have finished closer. With just 52.5kg she is weighted to win this and I'm more than happy to take the $4.20. The horse that beat her first up may be the biggest test once again. That was LA BELLA DIOSA who was already a Group 1 winner over 1600m in New Zealand before winning first up. She goes in all conditions and will settle midfield from barrier 3 and there's no reason she can't be in the finish here. DIXIE BLOSSOMS absolutely bolted in on the Heavy track last start and although it won't be bottomless like it was that day, it will still be wet which brings her right into calculations. EURO ANGEL looks way over the odds to me at $26 after a reasonably good first up run. She will improve up in distance and I expect her to run a big race. IN HER TIME, GLOBAL GLAMOUR, SILENT SEDITION and THAMES COURT others to consider.
Tip: Omei Sword / La Bella Diosa EW
Race 8
Wide open race and probably the hardest of the day. AROD bounced back last start and should have won over 1300m at Group 3 level if not for interference. Hard to trust that he will once again produce a good run but if he does he's definitely a winning chance. HE'S OUR ROKKII is much better suited under handicap conditions than WFA Group 1 conditions of his past two starts behind Black Heart Bart. Goes well on Soft ground with three wins from four starts and draws to get a great run from barrier 3. DIBAYANI comes up favourite after bumping into Winx last start. He's just won the two races from 27 career starts and while I'm sure he'll be around the mark, it's hard to back him to win. NEW TIPPERARY is set to improve sharply on his first up run. He's undefeated second up from a spell and has the blinkers on for the first time so with 53kg on his back I'd expect him to go pretty close here. I think a value runner could be SINGING who comes into this first up from a spell. He's finished in the top 2 at four of his five starts when first up and also goes well on Soft ground. He will need further than this but I think he's a good each way hope. Happy to back He's Our Rokkii and Singing EW but very wary of New Tipperary.
Tip: He's Our Rokkii / Singing EW (Best Value)
Race 9
Another competitive race where nothing really stands out. Waller has a strong hand but hard to separate his runners. Leaning towards CAUTHEN'S POWER who is much better suited on a Soft track than a heavy track. Has the weight to carry, however. Hardest to beat could be the stablemate WINE BUSH who is ready to do something third up. Not convinced he's best suited on Soft ground though, and he's hard to catch. Big watch on GREEN SWEET first up in Australia.
Tip: Cauthen's Power
