Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Rosehill on Saturday, June 16th.
We have a nine-race card on a track that’s currently rated a soft 6 but the forecast is for fine weather so we should see that upgraded. The rail is in the true position.
We’ve got betting tips and comments for every race below. Make sure to tune into Episode 39 of the Before You Bet Podcast as Tim previews every race at Moonee Valley and Rosehill! You can also find our Moonee Valley Racing Tips here!
Rosehill Betting Tips
Best Bet: Race 1 #1 Ronstar
Best Value: Race 8 #3 Nictock / #8 Clear The Beach
RACE 1
Only five runners going arund here and it looks a nice race for the favourite (1) Ronstar who is aiming to make it three wins from as many starts. He’s won his first two starts over 1200m and now steps up to 1400m. He maps to find the lead once again and should be able to get things his own way. The Portelli stable is flying at present and he’s been well backed in early markets. (4) Pedicel was a winner on debut at Canterbury and will likely sit on the back of the favourite. (3) Silent Explorer comes off a soft track win at Warwick Farm and shouldn’t be the rank outsider.
TIP: (1) Ronstar
RACE 2
Good little race. (1) Gresham has powered away to win his past two starts, winning by 4.3L and 2.3L respectively. His last win came under 60kg so the weight shouldn’t be an issue here. Thye’ll be positive from the good draw and he looks the one they all have to run down again. (14) Touch Of Mink gets 7.5kg off him with just 53kg here. She’s won her past two starts which have been the only wins of her career. She was only 2.5L off Shoals in a Group 1 back in March. She does tend to get a long way back in running though so barrier 1 could prove a touch problematic. (8) Sweet Victory should arguably be undefeated from three runs this preparation but the form out of his last start is fairly ordinary. (3) Schubert was ridden positively last start but after failing it’s possible they’ll ride him quiet today. He can improve. The real value in the race could be (12) Nicci’s Gold at $16 for the in-form Portelli stable. Second up today and has won two of her three second up runs coming into this, as well as two from three on soft ground.
TIP: (1) Gresham / (12) Nicci’s Gold EW
RACE 3
Competitive Highway Handicap. (2) Dia De Reyes won a Highway first up over 1200m and will appreciate this step up in trip given the ease in which it won a Highway last prep over 1800m. Tye Angland takes over for James McDonald today and the cut out of the ground is sure to suit, as that victory last prep was on soft ground. I think the $5.50 is a good price. (1) Radiant Choice won a Highway last start over 1400m when leading all the way but I’m not convinced it was the strongest race. Has to carry weight again today and finds a much tougher contest. (5) Central Witness and (8) Valree faced each other two starts ago in a Highway over this track and distance. Valre got the better on that occasion by 2L so from the good draw should be competitive once again. (12) Haames finished off well last start and drops to 53kg here so could be a value chance.
TIP: (2) Dia De Reyes EW
RACE 4
(3) La Chica Bella should be ready to win now with three runs under her belt and a positive jockey change. Rachel King gets back on to replace Kathy O’Hara and from the wide gate they’ll slide across to either lead or sit outside the lead. With the fitness edge on her main market rival she has no excuses today. (2) So Splendid is the current favourite and resumes here. She’s probably the class runner of the field but is first up with a big weight and will have to run down La Chica Bella. McEvoy on board suggests she’s fit enough to do so, otherwise they’d be claiming to relieve some of the 59.5kg. (4) Queen Misty is a place chance third up from a spell but she never wins.
TIP: (3) La Chica Bella
RACE 5
Very hard race with no clear standouts. I’ll be limiting myself to two each way bets here. The first will be on (4) Intueri who hasn’t had any luck in his past two starts. I’m not convinced the formlines are necessarily the best but he draws well again and we’re getting double figure odds. (5) Chaterlard didn’t come up last prep but his first up run this time in was encouraging, just 0.9L off the winner. Up in distance, second up with Tye Anglang on board. He showed early in his career that he had plenty of ability so maybe with that dud prep behind him, he can rediscover his best form. (13) Walk The Streets is third up from a long spell, down in the weights with McEvoy on board, while (11) Kurnel Jaxon has been good in his past two starts and can feature again from the inside barrier.
TIP: (4) Intueri EW / (5) Chaterlard EW
RACE 6
Another tricky little race. (7) Dagny stepped up to 1800m last start when she defeated (6) Harper’s Choice, making her undefeated from two attempts at that distance. She now tackles the 2000m for the first time in her career but she’s hit form at the right time and Waller seems to think she’s going particularly well. She’ll need another gun ride from McEvoy from barrier 9. (4) Nurse Kitchen comes down from Brisbane and is third up from a spell here. Third up last preparation she went down by a nose in Group 1 company. Now the form from that particular race hasn’t turned out to be so strong, but it’s clear that Nurse Kitchen needs wet ground and she’s likely to find conditions to suit her today. Third up, up to 2000m and looks a big hope of rolling these. (5) Black On Gold is building towards a win but he’ll need the ground as firm as possible. Backing Dagny at $3.75 and Nurse Kitchen at $5.
TIP: (7) Dagny
RACE 7
Sticking with the form out of the (5) Sir Bacchus win over course and distance last start, where (7) New Universe and (2) Invinzabeel ran 2nd and 3rd. I think the winner can go close again here despite rising 5kg in the weights. He’s won three from six on soft ground so conditions will suit. The wide draw isn’t ideal but he looks to have been steadily working his way back to form this prep and now that he’s found it he may be able to go on with it. Out of the placegetters, I’m sticking with Invinzabeel, who is only second up tomorrow and has won three from five at the track and distance. He will probably want the ground firmer than what it’s likely to be but he’s still a chance with freshness on his side. (11) Prometheus will also likely need a firm track given he’s never placed in four starts on soft ground but he was a much better horse last prep compared to what we saw before that and he’s trialled well again leading into his first up run today.
TIP: (2) Invinzabeel / (5) Sir Bacchus EW
RACE 8
Several chances here and a good betting race with a bit of value available. (3) Nictock went down by a head first up when he led everywhere bar the winning post. I’m willing to go again here with $11 available given he was first up from a fairly lengthy spell and should improve off that. He’s undefeated second up and has a terrific record at the distance. Maps to find the lead from the wide barrier and comes down in weight from last start. (8) Clear The Beach will be right up on speed first up here from barrier 1. He won first up over this course and distance last prep on what was also a soft track. He’s now undefeated over course and distance and even though he’s resuming from a very long spell, I like the $12 on offer. (5) Best Guess is yet another horse first up and has trialled twice leading into this. Awkward draw and may need one more run but should be thereabouts, while the favourite (14) Albumin gets his chance once again from a good draw with no weight on his back.
TIP: (3) Nictock EW / (8) Clear The Beach EW
RACE 9
Another tough race to finish off the quaddie. Interested in (14) Argent D’Or third up with McEvoy on replacing Kathy O’Hara. He’s yet to win from three starts at this track and has yet to win at the distance but he gets his chance today from the good draw with the big jockey change. Expect him to shorten in from the $7.50 currently available. I think (12) Mapmaker is some value at the $16 mark. He was sound first up from a spell before a flat run last start. But his record suggests that he’s always flat second up and can bounce back third up here. He’s got a terrible record at the distance but he’s won shorter and further than this. Drawn well in barrier 6 and might be able to run a cheeky race. (3) The Avenger resumed with a good win in Wednesday grade and gets Tye Angland taking over from the apprentice today. Drawn well in barrier 3 and should be able to handle the step up in grade. (8) Irithea and (9) Shock Alert others with chances.
TIP: (14) Agent D’Or EW / (12) Mapmaker EW
