ROSEHILL RACING TIPS

RACE 3

This is a competitive little race but I’m keen on two horses here. Star Of The Seas ran well first up in defeat at Kensington, coming from back in the field to finish 2nd, beaten 0.5L. He’s yet to finish out of the placings from his five career starts and with that run under the belt, I suspect he’ll be hard to beat today. He steps up sharply from 1000m to 1350m, which typically I wouldn’t say is ideal, but Waller will have him spot on and the rise in trip is in his favour. I Got You ran well at his first Australian start in Melbourne, when beaten just over a length by Mystyko at Caulfield. Both of his career wins have come on Soft ground so the conditions should favour him today and he’s also won over 1400m, so the step up from 1100m to 1350m should suit. Drawn well and can go close at each way odds.

Value: I Got You $8.50

Star Of The Seas

$5.50

RACE 7

I’ll be backing one horse and saving on two others here in the Millie Fox Stakes. It’s fairly unoriginal but I think we’ll get the winner. I Am Serious goes on top and the soft ground is the main reason why. She’s trialled sensationally leading into her first up run today and she resumes over 1300m which is a distance she’s undefeated at. She’s had five starts on Soft ground for four wins and a 2nd. The one time she lost, she was beaten a head by Avilius. That’s very strong form. She’s got a good record at the track, a good record when first up, draws well in barrier 4 and gets James McDonald on board. Plenty to like about her. Savatiano also comes into this first up and if this had have been run on dry ground, she may have been the top pick. That’s not to say she’s no good in the wet, just that I Am Serious is probably better suited on Soft ground. Savatiano also trialled very nicely leading into this and her first up win last preparation was huge after sitting wide without cover the entire race. She’s yet to finish outside the top two from four starts at the distance and hasn’t missed a place from four starts on wet ground, so she also ticks plenty of boxes. Cool Passion ran very well first up behind Champagne Cuddles. She should be even better suited second up and she’s another that goes well on soft ground. It’s a great race but I’ll be backing I Am Serious ($3.50) and saving on both Savatiano ($5.50) and Cool Passion ($5.50).

I Am Serious

$3.50

RACE 8

Very keen to bet here as I think there’s a few that can roll this favourite. Waller holds a very strong hand with four runners in the race. I’ll be backing three of those (which probably means the fourth one will win). James McDonald is booked to ride Casterton, which is a strong hint that he might be ready to win first up today. He’s been gelded during his spell and he comes into this with a first up record of five starts, one win and three 2nd placings. He’s yet to win from nine starts on Good ground, but he’s had six starts on wet tracks for three wins and two 2nd placings. I’m expecting a big run from him today at a good price ($7.50). High Bridge is another at each way odds ($9.00) that could win this. Kerrin McEvoy takes the ride on this horse, who has two wins and three placings from seven starts when first up from a spell. He hasn’t beaten a single runner home in three trials this time in, but that doesn’t really put me off. First up last preparation he won over this distance at Canterbury in very impressive style. He went on to start a $5.00 chance in the G1 The Metropolitan, so you’d think a race like this would be well within his grasp. He’s got six wins on Soft ground so the conditions should suit. Drawn well in barrier 4 and carries just 53kg. Great each way chance. I’ll be saving on Tangled who comes into this third up from a spell. He’s yet to finish out of the top two from three previous third up runs. Backing both Casterton and High Bridge, saving on Tangled.

Value: High Bridge $9.00

Casterton

$7.50
