A heavyweight clash kicks off Sunday NRL, as the New Zealand Warriors head to Allianz Stadium to take on the high-flying Sydney Roosters. Despite the Warriors struggling for results to kick off the season, this still promises to be a cracking contest between two of the better teams in the competition.

Sydney Roosters vs New Zealand Warriors
Allianz Stadium, Sunday 12th May, 2:00pm (AEST)
Last Week
The Roosters continued rolling last week, hammering the Broncos 40-18 at Suncorp Stadium. Whilst the scoreline screamed a dominant display by the Roosters, the game, and the first half in particular, was far closer than the final scoreline suggests. Despite this, the Roosters can still be proud of their performance, and they are certainly putting their hands up as the form team of the competition right now. James Tedesco was back to his best, running for 265 metres, breaking the line twice, whilst setting up two tries.
Meanwhile, the Warriors lost their 3rd straight last week, going down 14-8 to the Knights in Newcastle. The conditions were horrible at McDonald Jones Stadium, but the loss still seemed a poor one for the Warriors, a team who had top 4 aspirations before the season started. The attack continued to splutter in the redzone, where they have struggled all season. Until they can fix their redzone attack, the Warriors will continue to struggle scoring points this year.
Match Preview
These teams met twice last season, with the Roosters victorious on both occasions. That made it eight straight wins for the Roosters in this rivalry, with the last win for the Warriors being in 2018. In round 2, the Roosters hosted the Warriors at Allianz Stadium, winning 20-12 as 12.5-point favourites. Then, in round 9, the Roosters got the better of the Warriors in Auckland 14-0, closing as 6.5-point favourites. Both games fell well under the closing totals.
This week, the Roosters opened 6.5-point favourites, and have steadily been bet up throughout the week to where they currently sit as 9.5-point favourites. I make the Roosters north of 10-point favourites, so have seen value in them all week. The major concern right now is the weather, with rain currently pummelling the eastern suburbs of Sydney, and it is set to continue raining through tomorrow. I would lean the Roosters but see more value in the total.
Speaking of the total, it opened 42.5 and has been bet up to 44.5. I do like the under, and make a fair total 40.5, however with the way the Roosters are attacking right now, I’m a little scared off. The Warriors defence is bordering on elite, making the under seem even more tempting. What is more tempting though, is the Warriors team total under, currently sitting around 16.5. The Roosters defence has been solid all season, conceding over 22 points just once all year. With the Warriors attack struggling, I like the Roosters to keep them in check, and I make a fair total for the Warriors just 13.5.

Same Game Multi
Roosters (-5.5) – I’m considering the Roosters at -9.5 and will take them at under a converted try here to pump the odds up.
Under 43.5 points – As above, the under is the play here.
D Tupou (1+ try) – The Warriors are conceding in bunches on their edges, and it just so happens the Warriors are conceding 86% of their tries on the edges.
