Royal Randwick returns this Saturday with the forecast not looking too promising. Some showers around Sydney mean we’ll likely be racing on a soft surface so be sure to consider that when looking at form.
Blake Lalor is in the saddle as he brings us his best racing tips for Randwick below.

Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, January 21st
Race 2
(11) Ripped stays in the same grade for the 4th consecutive race. He has been average to the eye in his last few attempts at bm72 midways but those races have produced winners with Flambeur, Excelladus and Iverson all winning their next start. This horse also gets blinkers on, drops back to the mile and is a nice price to have a go.
(9) Crafty Eagle was the opposite last start to Ripped. Very flashy performance winning easily over the line. That race hasn’t produced any solid performances since with almost the entire field missing the placings in their next starts. That doesn’t read well considering this is harder company but Crafty Eagle is in good form so must be considered a chance.
(3) Dr Evil was back in the field over 1800m last time and drops back to 1600m now which doesn’t look favourable. However, James McDonald takes over and will steer from gate 1. This setup is ideal for Dr Evil so he should be able to impact this race significantly.
(11) Ripped Each-Way
$18/$4 (1 Unit)
Race 4
(7) Mahagoni was only narrowly defeated by Logan Street Lion last time and gets a 1.5kg weight swing in his favour today. LSL has Irish Legend covered as he beat him home 2 starts ago and meets him more favourably on weights this time. Nice price for Mahagoni and 2000m should suit the way he ran out 1800m.
(2) Logan Street Lion is the horse to beat especially for Mahagoni who was beaten by him last time out. He’ll be tough to beat with James McDonald aboard from gate 1.
(6) Irish Legend has form that ties in closely to the top 2 selections here so has to be 3rd pick. Has experience over this trip and should benefit from that here.
(7) Mahagoni Each-Way
$6.50/$2.30 (1 Unit)
Race 7
(7) Lekvarte was deliberately restrained at the start of the G3 Belle Of The Turf last time from the carpark draw. She settled last on the rail and romped home to finish 6th. She was unlucky with the draw there and could’ve gone much closer had she drawn a more ideal gate. She gets that here and drops back to bm78 company so I’m expecting her to win.
(5) Banana Queen has looked impressive stepping up in class and winning her last 2. That said, eventually horses like this find a race just too difficult and they often open too short in the market leading up to that point. Happy to take her on at the price but concede she’s a chance.
(4) Tinnie Winnie ended last prep poorly but showed glimpses of ability earlier on. He’s 1st up here with James McDonald aboard which is a good indication he’ll be ready to run well over 1600m.
(7) Lekvarte Win
$5.50 (2 Units)
