2025 Premier League Darts Preview
The PDC (Professional Darts Corporation), at their own discretion, have selected eight players to contest the 2025 Premier League Dart across 17 weeks before a Semi Final/Final night at the O2 Arena in London. The favourite to win is 2024 champion Luke Littler, who had an incredible year, with that win highlighted by a host of other major titles, to go with his recent World Championship. But, he's going to have stiff competition and will have pressure on him to maintain his incredibly high level.
Let's take a closer look at the chances of the eight players in action this season!
Luke Littler
He's officially ranked #2 in the world, but there is no denying that he is quite clearly the best player in the world. His 2024 year...gee it was something else. And I've said repeatedly, he has the potential to be to Darts what Michael Jordan was to Basketball. He has transcended the sport and has made it mainstream with his incredible scoring and the fact he's a teenager taking on players with 20+ years experience. It's been stunning to watch but the query with him is that now he's climbed the mountain and is at the top, does he have the hunger to stay there? If he does, then it will be a case of good luck beating him.
Title Odds: $2.20
Luke Humphries
I hope I am wrong, but there are signs that Humphries is going down the path of recent World Champions that drop off dramatically and just go through the motions. His 2024 was pretty good, he won major titles and tournaments, but he was really poor in the World Championship and his recent efforts at Bahrain and in the Dutch Masters, he's nowhere near the level of what he was in 2023 when he was the best player in the world, and by some distance. He has a beautiful throw and can score big when in the mood.
Title Odds: $3.75
Michael Van Gerwen
MVG had a pretty solid 2024, and did reach the Final of the World Championship against Littler, but in the fair dinkum department, he was thrashed, and it was a clear change of the baton in terms of generational talent. But compared to previous years, 2024 was a poor one for MVG. At times, he looked really sluggish in the Premier League last year and was comfortably beaten more often than not by Littler. If you want to win the Premier League, you'll have to beat Littler on several occasions. I can't see Van Gerwen doing this.
Title Odds: $6.75
Gerwyn Price
If I was to bet early on who will win, or reach the Final, then it's Gezzy. 2024 was a complete wipe out for him. He was a constant complainant after his performances, he looked disinterested and there was no real hunger/desire to perform at a level that we know sees him be one of the world's best. But the World Championship run was a good sign that he's back and his performances since at Bahrain and in the Dutch Masters suggests that 2025 could be a year that Price bounces back, and big time. He loves the big stage and loves proving people wrong. I think he's a big threat to winning the title.
Title Odds: $13
Stephen Bunting
Let's Go Bunting Mental! Bunting was a popular inclusion to the Premier League when announced. He has one of the best personalities, a great walk on song, but he backs it up with unbelievable play. He had a brilliant 2024, highlighted by a first major title, and did have a great run at the World Championship. But, he bumped into Littler, who played out of this world in winning. His recent Masters performances have been quite strong and will be popular with the crowds, which could lift him to a win or two across the Premier League.
Title Odds: $13
Chris Dobey
Dobey was the talk of the PDC a couple of years ago but he didn't really go on with it in 2023 and was much the same in 2024. But, he had a really good World Championship where he reached the Semi Final, losing to MVG. His nickname is 'Hollywood' because he loves playing on the big stage and his 2024 away from the TV events was strong. He's a fascinating inclusion and can cause problems with his best.
Title Odds: $17
Nathan Aspinall
Aspinall was the controversial inclusion given he hasn't really done much for a few years and most (myself included) believe he is here purely because of his walk on song, 'Mr Brightside'. It does get the crowd going, and it is a great walk on. But he has to back it up with great play and more often than not, he doesn't, and that was the case last year in the Premier League. If he performs above expectations, too good, but I can't see him doing too much damage.
Title Odds: $21
Rob Cross
The 2018 World Champion is very hot and cold with his form but when he is on, he's an absolute gun. Unfortunately, his overall recent form has been just fair. He was poor during the World Championship but his recent performance at the Dutch Masters was a case of what he is capable, winning and beating Bunting in a brilliant final. He did a decent job last year in the Premier League and seems slight overs.
