2024 NRL Round 17 Preview & Betting Tips
Penrith Panthers vs North Queensland Cowboys
BlueBet Stadium, Sunday 30th June, 4:05pm (AEST)
Both sides are coming off the bye but as stated above, Origin will influence the teams given the two sides have the greatest representation in Origin when it comes to NRL clubs. The Panthers have shown time and time again that they can cope with Origin, and more often than not, their players back up and star, as seen post the opening Origin game. They have won 14 of their last 16 at BlueBet Stadium and the Cowboys haven't won there since 2016. The Panthers were outstanding the last time they played, beating Newcastle in the Hunter, with their Origin stars coming to the fore in an outstanding display. Should the majority back up, then they are clearly going to take beating, especially on a Sunday afternoon in front of their home fans.
This is an important game for the Cowboys. They showed a few weeks ago that they can come to Sydney and beat the big clubs when beating the Roosters. Last time they took care of Canberra, who are just about the worst side in the competition as it stands, so how strong is that form? Not deep IMO, but they are a great attacking side and off the bye, their rested players will be fresh and ready to cause havoc, especially Scott Drinkwater, one of the better attacking fullbacks in the game. If they bring their best, they can cause problems.
Match Prediction: It is hard seeing the Cowboys threatening the Panthers given they can leak points with ease and up against a humming Penrith attack, that could spell trouble. At home, I think the Panthers will cover the line and win comfortably.

Panthers -11.5: As stated above, I am keen on the Panthers and I don't think the 11.5 start is enough for the Cowboys. I think Penrith win and win quite well.
Under 46.5 Points: I think the Panthers defensive line is the best in the comp and I think they will frustrate the Cowboys, who can spit the dummy out when things don't go their way, and quickly.
SGM Odds: $3.90 at Neds
