Pakenham Racing Club gets its chance to host Saturday racing with the running of its annual Cup.
This year the race is worth a nice $300,000 and will be run over the 2500m course. The Cup is an open one too with most of the field showing some good form in recent weeks.
After wins last start, Milford and Kissinger are the likely favourites.
Brendan Bunworth delivers his four best bets on the card, with gallopers running on a likely Soft 5 surface in 29 degrees sunshine.
Pakenhan Racing Tips: Saturday December 3rd
Race 1
(7) Brayden Star has had one start in Australia for a dominant win where he ran on well down the middle to win for Damien Oliver. Ollie stays with him here and although he won't be big odds, he should get us off to a nice start of the day with a couple of his key rivals carrying hefty weights. He will be running on ground he prefers and the rise of 500m distance for him looks as though it will be okay.
(5) Flash Feeling was okay when3.85L behind Milford last week and that horse is running in the main race of the day.
(10) Never Again is experienced and has won from five from 27 on Good tracks so will want a track upgrade.
(2) Reuber has to carry 61kg but did run well in a jumpout at Cranbourne earlier in the week.
(7) Brayden Star WIN
$2.10 (3 Units)
Race 4
(4) Najem Suhail is a quick horse and hopefully has one more run in him this campaign, a winning one. He was scratched last time but back on a slightly drier track here, he should be in the finish. He will settle on pace for Blake Shinn, but in an easier race this time, he won't be big odds. He goes back to the 1000m here after the freshen up and he could lead all of the way.
(3) Squid Game is another quick one and will go well if there is a lot of pace on early. He has won first up before and up the straight at Flemington when starting short.
(8) Boss Lady Rocks is versatile and consistent and has Craig Williams on. Should be close up to the winner.
(9) Dance to Dubai has won four from nine on Good tracks and will want the sun to dry the track out (which is possible) and is another one resuming. Najem Suhail will have the fitness edge on him though you would think.
(4) Najem Suhail WIN
$4.80 (2 Units)
Race 7
(8) Nobel Heights for Matt Cumani and Declan Bates is a winning hope in the Cup on the back of a good second behind Kissinger at Cranbourne last start. He drops three kilos for this and does have a very good career strike rate if you take away his two unplaced runs on the Heavy. From barrier one last time they hit the front early but having 11 in this they may opt to post up handy, maybe in the one-one. He has had three runs in now so is likely to be very fit for this race.
(9) Vegas Knight led and kept trying last time and if he can get away with cheap sectionals here can be in this for a long way.
(6) Kissinger has Ollie on again and will attract a lot of support. Despite winning last start, does lose 1.5kg for this.
(2) Good Idea is racing well and is on the quick backup of a 3200m third at Sandown last week.
(8) Nobel Heights Each-way
$8.50/$2.70 (1 Unit)
Race 8
(6) Nicolini Vito for the Hayes Team has drawn nicely in two and does have Ollie on board. He has been racing well this prep but has been striking some Heavy tracks which is not ideal. With the track being a Soft 5 or Good one by this time of day, he probably gets his best chance to win one again at nice odds. He usually settles around midfield and has a run at them from the 400m and similar tactics are expected to be used here.
(10) Pal D’Oro is good fresh and did bolt in last time at Cranbourne. Lightly raced but has had a few recent jumpouts.
(5) Jimmy The Bear has his Grand Final in The Everest (11th) and sometimes it’s hard to bounce back. In saying that, he is obviously down in class.
(2) Looks Like Elvis is the likely favourite and is ultra-consistent having been in the money 31 of 58 starts.
(6) Nicolini Vito WIN
$10.00 (2 Units)
