EPL Matchday 2 Betting Tips
Newcastle United vs Brighton & Hove Albion
St. James' Park, Sunday 11pm AEST
Newcastle hit the ground running in their opening fixture against West Ham, defeating the Hammers 2-0 on the road. New recruit, Callum Wilson, enjoyed a goal in his Magpie debut, while Ryan Fraser was an unused substitute.
Brighton had the tough task of hosting a title contender in Chelsea in their Matchday 1 fixture, which proved a task too difficult. They went down 3-1 at home to the Blues, despite winning the possession 52% battle and leading the shot count (13-10).
These two clubs played each other twice during the season just gone and both games ended in nil all draws. There's now been four draws from the past five meetings between these sides and a total of just three goals scored combined. Despite the lack of goals, we believe Newcastle have a genuine talent advantage over the Seagulls this season and absolutely love the Callum Wilson signing. We expect them to get the win in this fixture to make it 2/2 to start the season.
Chelsea vs Liverpool
Stamford Bridge, Monday 1:30am AEST
Frank Lampard had a fantastic first campaign with Chelsea last season and got his team off to a winning start again this season, after defeating Brighton 3-1 on the road. They were a touch lucky to come away from that game with all three points however, as the scoreline isn't a true representation of how the match played out.
Liverpool got their title defence off to a good start with a win over the newly-promoted Leeds in a seven goal thriller. Mo Salah hit the ground running with a hat-trick, and it was his third goal in the 88th minute that secured the three points.
This should be a cracking match between two old rivals and it should also include plenty of goals. 11 goals were scored in their two league meetings last season; seven by Liverpool and four by Chelsea. The Reds won both meetings and have now gotten the chocolates in each of their last three matches vs the Blues. We're expecting more of the same this time around, with Liverpool proving too good on early Monday morning.
Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Manchester City
Molineux Stadium, Tuesday 5:15am AEST
Wolverhampton were too good on the road against Sheffield in their season-opener, defeating the Blades 2-0 in a mature performance. They hit the ground running with two goals inside the first six minutes, which allowed them to control the game from that point onwards and cruise to an easy victory.
Manchester City will be getting their season underway in Matchday 2 after their first game was postponed due to Covid complications. The Citizens will be desperate to get off to a positive start this season to stay in touch with Liverpool (and potentially others) in the title race.
These clubs obviously met twice in the league last season and surprisingly, both matches went the way of the Wolves (3-2 & 2-0). The Wolves are only getting stronger, so the $6 quote for them to win at home does look juicy. However, we're opting to take the safer route and are backing in Both Teams to Score at a $1.70ish quote, which looks well over the odds.
Value: Wolves $6
Both Teams to Score
$1.72
