A-League Betting Tips
Newcastle Jets vs Wellington Phoenix
Thursday August 13th, 7:30pm (AEST)
The Jets came storming home in the second half of the season to push for a playoff berth, but ended up just falling short. They come in having lost just one of their past 11 league matches and will be looking forward to a more successful campaign in 20-21.
The Nix started off the season horribly with four losses in their opening four games and it seemed like it was a long season ahead. However, they’ve been fantastic ever since and are now pushing for a top two spot and double chance in the finals.
If the Jets finals chances were still alive, then we’d probably fancy them here, but that’s just not the case. Instead, we really like the Nix to be on the front foot here in a must-win game, and we rate them a very good chance to win at around the $2.30 quote.
Sydney FC vs Western United
Saturday August 15th, 5pm (AEST)
Sydney FC have had another brilliant campaign and showed no signs of a champion’s hangover. They wrapped up top spot on the ladder a few weeks ago and have had the luxury of getting game time into some of their usual reserves.
Western United have defied all odds in their inaugural campaign and have clinched a finals berth. They still have a couple of games to play and can finish as high as third if they finish strong and other results fall their way.
Sydney are clearly the better team when they’re fit and firing, but they just haven’t been playing with the same intensity since they wrapped up top spot. On the other hand, Western United are in fantastic winning form and will be looking to climb further up the ladder to give themselves the best chance of success in the finals. We certainly couldn’t talk you out of taking United H2H at big odds, but getting a double chance at around $1.80 is the safe play here.
Western United or Draw
$1.83
Western United vs Melbourne City
Wednesday August 19th, 7:30pm (AEST)
Western United were able to get the job done in stoppage time against Sydney FC last time out and how now officially clinched a finals berth in their inaugural season in the A-League. United have been on a tear since play resumed, winning four of their five matches.
Melbourne City had the least games to play when play resumed and will be well rested ahead of the finals. Their two matches post-hiatus have included a win over Sydney and a draw with Adelaide. They’ve locked in a top two spot and will have a double chance in the finals.
This is effectively a dead rubber and traditionally that would mean this will be a dull affair; however, this is a new rivalry and they are professional athletes who are gearing up for a finals campaign, so we expect a decent spectacle. Despite losing both matches against City this season, we really like the price for a United win here. They come in having won six of their past seven league matches and a near $3 quote looks decent value.
