Note: We have opted not to provide a preview for Wednesday night’s clash between the Wanderers and Victory as it is a complete dead rubber.
Brisbane Roar vs Sydney FC
Monday, 7.30pm (AEST)
The Roar currently sit in fourth place on the table and a win here would secure a top four place and the easier first round matchup that comes with it. They have a 1-1-1 record since the season resumed and are coming off a hard fought 1-1 draw with Wellington Phoenix in their last clash.
Sydney FC’s form throughout the season restart has been shakey but that has likely been through a lack of interest in their remaining regular season games. They have had top spot on the table locked up for quite some time now, and despite adding just 1 point to their tally in the three games since the season restarted, they still sit atop the ladder by a whopping nine points.
Sydney FC will likely have limited interest in this game as well and should look to find some form in their final regular season matchup on Saturday night against Western United. The Road have much more to play for here and come into the game in better form. Love the value of Brisbane.
Melbourne City vs Adelaide United
Tuesday 7.30pm (AEST)
Melbourne City need to secure two more points throughout their two remaining games against Adelaide and Western United to ensure they finish in second place on the ladder and receive the first round by in finals which has proven to be so important over the years. They won’t want to leave it until the final game of the regular season next Wednesday night to secure those points, so you can bet they’ll be giving it everything they have on Tuesday against Adelaide.
Melbourne City have played just one game since the season resumed, which was an ominous 2-0 win over Sydney FC 10 days ago. With that win, they firmed as the favourite to knock off Sydney in the finals. Adelaide have played four games since the season returned and are undefeated through those games with a 2-2-0 record.
Tough game to call here but if Melbourne City bring the same form as they did against Sydney FC back on the 1st of August, they should be too strong for Adelaide United. Adelaide have won their last two against City, but those wins broke a dominant Melbourne stretch that saw them undefeated in their last eight against United.
Perth Glory vs Western United
Wednesday 5.35pm (AEST)
Depending on what happens in the Tuesday night clash, this game could hold a lot of importance in the structuring of the finals picture. Perth Glory currently sit in the box seat in 5th place with 37 points but this will be their last game of the regular season. Western United on the other hand, have three games to play and currently trail the Glory by just four points.
The Perth Glory has played five games since the season resumed and they have looked in pretty horrid form at times. They were beaten 5-3 by Adelaide United at the end of July and were decimated by four goals at the hands of the Victory in their last game.
If Western United can find a way to win this one, they will only need to win one of their last two games to jump Perth and get into the finals. Their first matchup against the Glory earlier in the year resulted in a 1-1 draw in a pretty even contest throughout. With so much on the line and Perth bringing pretty bad form into this game, we like the value of Western United here.
