A-League Betting Tips
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Wellington Phoenix
Friday 7.30pm (AEST)
The Wanderers returned to action with a draw against the Mariners and now face a huge uphill battle to feature in the finals. They’re seven points outside the top six with two games in hand, meaning their fate is now out of their hands.
Wellington Phoenix have had mixed results in their three games back since the restart (1-1-1). Last time out they were very stiff not to beat Adelaide United after missing a penalty in the 87th minute. The Nix remain in second spot on the ladder and are in the box seat to secure a double chance in the finals.
Phoenix still have it all to play for in their remaining games and get a favourable matchup against the Wanderers here. They’ve had a fantastic season to date and will be desperate to finish in the top two, which makes this a must-win. Getting anything over $2 for them to win looks like great value here.
Melbourne City vs Sydney FC
Saturday 5pm (AEST)
Melbourne City finally get to resume their season and are the last team to do so. They currently occupy third spot on the ladder but are just goal difference behind Phoenix in second. City also have a leader for the Golden Boot in Jamie Maclaren who has banged in 18 goals from just 20 games this campaign. It’s clear that his form in the restart is absolutely crucial to their title chances this season.
Sydney FC were finally crowned Premiers last weekend when Wellington drew with Adelaide, and they can now take the foot off the gas and rest some of their stars for their four remaining games.
Sydney looked a little disinterested in their most recent hit-out against the Jets (2-1 loss) and we believe that’s a sign of things to come for the remainder of the regular season. On the other hand, City will be trying their absolute hardest to secure a top two spot, which makes them a very solid bet on Saturday evening.
Newcastle Jets vs Western United
Sunday 7.30pm (AEST)
The Jets have been in some really good form over their last 10 games (5-4-1) but just might have left their run a little late. Their 0-0 draw against the Mariners in their most recent match could prove to be costly as they’re now six points behind sixth with just two games to play.
Western United returned to action in style with a 2-1 win over their new rivals in Melbourne Victory. It was a huge result for United who now move to within four points of sixth place with three games in hand.
Western United haven’t gotten the respect they deserve from the bookies all season long and this weekend is no different. They were impressive in their win last time out to make it three on the trot and will bring plenty of confidence into this matchup. At around the $3 quote, United look like a fantastic value shot on Sunday night.
