AFL Round 4: Sunday Preview & Betting Tips

June 27th 2020, 1:13am, By: PuntingInDanger

Sunday in Round 4 of the AFL boasts another solid three game slate, which gets underway at 1.05pm. The Lions will host the Crows in the first game of the day before the Demons face off against the Cats from the MCG. In the twilight match, it'll be the Hawks and Kangaroos battling from Marvel Stadium.

As usual, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for all three game on Sunday below.

AFL Round 4 Sunday Betting Picks

Brisbane vs Adelaide

Gabba, 1.05pm (AEST)

The Lions will look to make it three wins in a row when they square off against the Crows in the early game of the day from 1.05pm. After losing to the Hawks in Round 1 back in March, the Lions have been great since the season resumed, winning against Fremantle in Round 2 and backing it up with another strong performance against West Coast in Round 3. They currently sit fifth on the ladder and with Collingwood losing to GWS on Friday night, the Lions could jump as high as 2nd with a win here.

Just a few years removed from making the Grand Final, the Crows look like an absolute shell of their former self. They sit on the bottom of the ladder with an 0-3 record, having lost to Sydney, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast through the opening rounds. The selection axe swung this week as star midfielder Matt Crouch and small forward Paul Seedsman were dropped for hte clash against Brisbane. The Crows will also be without Rory Atkins, who has an injured shoulder.

Can't see the Crows being competitve here, they are an absolute rabble at the moment. They were semi-competitve in Round 1 in, losing by just three points to the Swans, but they have been decimated since the season returned, with a combined losing margin of 128 points in two games. The Lions start as 32.5 point favourites here and we expect them to cover that margin.

Melbourne vs Geelong

MCG, 3.35pm (AEST)

The Demons will be fresh off a two week break due to their Round 3 matchup against the Bombers being postponned. They'll catch the Cats seemingly at the right time, just one week after they stumbled at home, losing by two points to the Blues in a thrilling match.

Rhys Stanley and Harry Taylor come out of the Cats side through injury, but other than that, the Cats look to have settled on a pretty strong line-up this week. The Demons injury list is just as strong, with the selection table having to axe five this week to fit in the players returning from injury.

Like the look of the Demons here. This is arguably the best side they have fielded since they made their return to the finals back in 2018. The Demons have plenty of blokes in great form and a ruckman in Max Gawn that should be able to tear this game to pieces against stand in ruckman Darcy Fort.

Hawthorn vs North Melbourne

Marvel Stadium, 6.10pm

The Hawks and Kangaroos will close our the round from 6.10pm at Marvel Stadium on Sunday. The Hawks will be coming off a great win over Richmond on Thursday night football in Round 2, downing the Tigers by 32 points to move to 2-1 on the season. They will go into the game unchanged after the win, one of only two teams alongside the Gold Coast Suns who haven't made a single change this week.

The Roos suffered their first loss of the season in Round 3, going down to the Swans by 11 points at Marvel Stadium on Saturday. They'll be hunting a win here to remain in teh top eight, as they currently hold on by percentage alone. The Roos selection committee swung the axe on four players this week and they'll get the boost from the addition of star midfielder Ben Cunnington coming back into the lineup.

The Hawks start as 8.5 point favourites here and we are siding with them. Going into the game unchanged after a massive win is always a confidence boost and they'll no doubt carry some of that momentum through to the clash on Sunday. The home team has won the last six games in a row in games between these two sides, and although this game is at Marvel, the Hawks are technically hosting. Back them to cover the spread here.
