The 2019-20 A-League season continues this weekend with Round 22. We had our first tough round of the year last weekend with so many unusual results being tossed up. Despite that, we’re confident we can produce our usual output this weekend when we provide our best betting tips for the upcoming Round 22. A-League Round 22 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Friday, 8:30pm AEDT
Brisbane Roar come into this off a fairly disappointing 1-0 away loss against Melbourne City last weekend. Roar failed to generate many threatening forward movements and would’ve been very lucky had they got a point for their efforts. That loss put an end to a mini three game unbeaten run and has them glued to sixth spot on the table with 26 points.
The Wanderers look like they’ve returned to form with back to back wins for the first time since the opening rounds of the season. Last weekend they took care of Sydney FC for the second time this campaign thanks to a Mitchell Duke winner. The Wanderers are now four games unbeaten (3W, 1D) and have moved just two points outside the top six.
Both of these teams have had a good month of football leading into this fixture, which should make for a cracking contest. For us, we’ll be taking Roar at home where they’re 4-2-2 on the season. They may have lost last weekend, but they certainly weren’t disgraced and are capable of bouncing back with a win on their home deck.
Central Coast Mariners vs Wellington Phoenix
Sunday, 4pm AEDT
The Mariners were heavy losers against last weekend when Western United knocked them for six (6-2). It was another embarrassing defeat for the perennial cellar-dwellers, making it seven straight league losses. The Mariners look set for another Wooden Spoon at season’s end unless they come up with some sort of miracle.
Wellington Phoenix were the beneficiaries of the bye last weekend and will come into this round full of beans. Prior to their break they had won six of eight fixtures and were arguably the form team of the competition. The run that Phoenix has put together has led them into fourth spot on the table and just three points behind second spot.
Phoenix will be hoping that the week off will act as a fresher and won’t stall their momentum in any way. If they can hit the ground running and continue with their pre-bye form, then they should be winning this without too many problems at all.
Perth Glory vs Melbourne City
Sunday, 6pm AEDT
Perth Glory fell victim to an unsuspected loss last weekend when they fell to the Jets in Newcastle. Glory certainly had their fair share of chances, particularly in the first half, but were unable to capitalise and eventually left with nothing. That loss ended their 10 game unbeaten run in the league and saw them cough up second spot on the table.
Melbourne City were solid at the back last weekend in their 1-0 win over Brisbane Roar. It was a true workmanlike performance from the Citizens in a league where clean sheets are at an all-time premium. That win was their second from their past three games and saw them leap frog Glory into second spot on the league table.
It’s third vs second here in the clear match of the round. Although Glory were unlucky losers last weekend, they’re still the form team in our eyes considering they’ve lost just one of their past 11 matches and are 4-1-0 at home in their last five attempts. We expect them not to dwell too much on last weekend’s disappointment and bounce back with a solid win at home.
