Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, January 28th.
After a big Australia Day long weekend, we're back to the grind, with four meetings across the country this afternoon. Luke Krahe has turned his attention to the racing at Goulburn, Tamworth and Benalla and picked out his best bets of the day below!
Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, January 28th
Goulburn Race 3 - (Market)
(6) Wild Chap will start the favourite in this but I am more than happy to take him o at start number two. He debuted at Wagga and led all the way to bolt in by more than 3 lengths but he was favoured the way the track was and by the tempo of the race. He has to rise in trip, has the tricky inside gate and goes from a maiden to a Class 1. (4) Ready’s Girl is the play for me, she won her maiden at the start of this prep, was run down second-up to narrowly go down in a similar race to this and has been fair at the last two. I think there will be a speed burn and she can get the sweet sit behind them, love the rider change with Collett jumping on replacing Jess Taylor. Looks a great each-way bet to nothing.
Goulburn Race 6 - (Market)
(7) Your Witness doesn’t win out of turn but is very consistent, he has only won 4 of 39 but has placed another 12 times. He ran on hard at Gosford from a mile back in a harder race than this, not easy to do there up the small straight. He then went to Warwick Farm three weeks ago, over-raced badly through the middle stages but was again good through the line. Gets up to the 1400m today and in form Tom Marquand gets the ride, hopefully he can get him to settle mid-field or better and he will finish off hard. I suggest that there may even be double figure odds available at some stage throughout betting.
(7) Your Witness E/W
$8.00
Tamworth Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Fox Spirit was on debut last start for the Cameron Crockett yard at Scone. She had trialed well before going to Dubbo for that first race start and was solid on the second line of betting. She sat up outside the leader, kicked in the straight but was grabbed in the last stride to go down by a narrow margin. She gets the senior rider on today from the good gate, should be able to kick through and lead and look suited coming back the 1000m. Respect any money for the three first-starters but they haven’t shown a lot at the trials, if Fox Spirit lands on the bunny they won’t be running her down.
Benalla Race 1 - (Market)
(6) Nebaraz won’t be flash odds, if you are not into taking red figures she may be worth just watching for future reference. She is a Written Tycoon filly on debut for the Busuttin/Young stable who has impressed at the trials. She had a jump-out back in December but hard to gauge off that but she did win it comfortably. She then went to the official trials at Tatura two weeks ago and couldn’t have been more impressive. She was well away from the inside led, put a gap on them mid-race and wasn’t pushed through the line to win by 10. The time was good and clearly the fastest of the 15 trials that day over the 850m, she has shown good barrier manners at both trials and drawn well, she should be too quick for them. A video of that recent trial @ Taura can be found here.
