Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, January 26th.
It's Australia Day and we'll hopefully be celebrating by finding a few winners on today's racing at Wyong and Geelong! Luke Krahe has highlighted his four best bets of the day below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, January 26th
Wyong Race 1 - (Market)
Let’s get Australia Day off with a bang! (3) Shadow Colour has had four career starts, all in this prep officially but he did have a 7-week break before his last run. That was just down the road at Gosford, he jumped awkwardly before working through to lead on the rail. He stuck on well enough but just found a Waller runner better on the day after a perfect ride. This looks no harder and he gets the blinkers off, should be able to get an uncontested lead and with that run under his belt, they won’t be catching him. I would be wary of the debutant (6) Patrina from the Kylie Gavenlock yard if there is any money for her. She creates interest as a 5YO mare having her first start, she has obviously had her issues as she has official trials dating back to June of 2017!
Wyong Race 4 - (Market)
(1) Acumen is going to start a very short-priced favourite in this off a crushing maiden win when resuming at Gosford last start. He was brilliant but led all the way and put a gap on them, just worried that he won’t have it all his own way in front with some speed drawn a bit wider. He deserves favourtism but there is no way I could take anything in the red. I liked the way that (5) Mandirigma hit the line running into third when resuming off a long break. He had a good run and did have every chance, but he just was getting warm late and maps well again. Hopefully he can get the cold sit behind the leader (most likely the favourite), if the pressure is applied Acumen should be able to kick and give our tip the run early in the straight. Gibbons is coming off a double at Newcastle yesterday, I wouldn’t be shocked if he tries to lead from the inside.
Geelong Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Early Morning Rise is a new addition to the Danny O’Brien stable and has only had one run here since coming from NZ. She was at Geelong two weeks ago, second last in the small field in the run before running on hard into second and was clearly the best of the few that were not on the speed. She was well favoured and showed that she has ability and will take plenty from that run. Olly sticks on and draws well. (11) Sticking Point will have supporters, she is first-up but I wasn’t impressed with what she showed at her first prep. She was good enough in her most recent jump-out which can be found here (heat 6), the time was certainly not the quickest of the day! Prefer to see how she has come back.

Geelong Race 4 - (Market)
(5) Shockingly has not placed at six career starts, but I do like the fact that he is third-up. This pattern last prep was his best run when a close-up fourth on a similarly rain affected track. He hasn’t had much go his way at two starts this campaign, caught wide without cover when fresh and never go into the race when second-up. Out in trip and a couple of minor gear changes, don’t be surprised to see a big improvement at the huge odds.
