A-League Round 3 Betting Tips

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory

Friday 7:30pm AEDT, Suncorp Stadium

Brisbane Roar kicked off the season with a point when they travelled to Perth in Round 1. They were the heavy underdogs in that clash, so a point was a good outcome. They were the second team scheduled for the bye, which means they didn’t play in Round 2 and should be fresh and ready to hit the ground running in their first home fixture of the season.

Melbourne Victory have been the big disappointments so far this season. They played their part in an underwhelming nil all draw in Round 1 and regressed further in Round 2 to fall 2-1 at home to the Wanderers. It seems the Victory lack a bit of quality up front this season, which is something we haven’t associated with them in the past.

We were surprised to see Roar open as the big outsiders in this Round 3 opener, particularly with them being the home side off a week’s rest. We expect them to have every chance of winning this match against an out of sorts Victory outfit and are more than happy to play these odds to kick off the round.

Newcastle Jets vs Adelaide United

Saturday 5pm AEDT, Hunter Stadium

The Jets had to wait a week longer than everyone else to get their season off underway after being dealt the bye in Round 1. They got off to an OK start in Round 2 by claiming an away point against the Mariners. They were the better team on the day and amassed 17 shots on target, but it just wasn’t to be, and they had to settle for a point.

Adelaide United claimed their second FFA Cup title when they became champions midweek. They made extremely light work of City to win by four goals to nil in a super impressive display. It was a great result for the Reds who are yet to get on the board in the league this season. Both of these sides love to get on the attack and neither of them are that great defensively.

Adelaide have already conceded five goals in the league and have shown they’ve got the ability to score themselves with three league goals, as well as four cup goals midweek. Newcastle created a lot of chances themselves last weekend, which leads us to believe this could be an exciting goal fest.

Western United vs Melbourne City

Sunday 6pm AEDT, GMHBA Stadium

Western United weren’t able to make it 2/2 in the A-League and had to settle for a point against Perth in Round 2. They weren’t quite as threatening as they were against Wellington the week prior, but they still had their moments. Four points from two fixtures is a positive start for a new club trying to compete with two of the biggest clubs in the competition for fanbase.

Melbourne City were embarrassed midweek in their FFA Cup final loss to Adelaide. They were pumped 4-0 and never looked like challenging on the day. It was a disappointing performance from them considering they played well and got the win on the weekend against the same side. Regardless, City are on four points and sit in third spot on the ladder.

We expect there to be some carry over effect from City’s big loss midweek, which should leave the door open for Western United to take advantage at home. They’ve proven they’re more than competitive in this league and can go a long way to claiming the three points on Sunday.
