The PDC World Series of Darts heads to Australia’s home of sport this weekend, with Melbourne Arena set to host the Melbourne Darts Masters on Friday and Saturday night.
Melbourne Darts Masters Betting Tips
There should be a bit of extra hype for this event following the shock win of local Damon Heta in Brisbane last weekend. Hard to think anyone could’ve predicted that result but Heta got past Wade, Anderson, Whitlock and Cross on his way to his first ever PDC title. The DPA number one has showed glimpses of his potential in the past, but after stringing together four high-quality performances in a row, he’s shown that he is capable of matching it with the best in the world.
It was upsets aplenty in Brisbane, with Peter Wright and James Wade first round losers, Corey Cadby putting in a poor performance, and Michael van Gerwen going down to Daryl Gurney in the quarter-finals. They were not the results that most expected, so it will be interesting to see how they respond in Melbourne.
MVG is again the raging-hot favourite at $2.63 at Sportsbet and should bounce back in Melbourne. Gary Anderson ($8.00 at Sportsbet) looked awesome in his first round win over Cadby but couldn’t go on with it in the quarter-final. Simon Whitlock also looked to be in good touch. The Wizard whitewashed fellow Aussie Kyle Anderson, before winning the first three legs in the semi-final against Damon Heta. It was nine legs on the trot for Whitlock before Heta recovered and got over the line. Whitlock at $21 at BetEasy is certainly not the worst value bet going around. And if you think Heta can go back-to-back then he’s $41 at BetEasy.
However I was really impressed with Gary Anderson’s first round win over Corey Cadby. Sure, the Aussie dropped his bundle, but it was hard with the pressure Gary was piling on. His scoring and checkouts were sublime, and it really felt like he was back to some of his best darts. He was unable to go on with it in the next round, but they were good signs, and I think he looks good value in Melbourne for a bet at $8.00.
