For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow voting system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

The Hawks embraced the conditions with James Worpel (31 disposals, 6 tackles), Isaac Smith (28 disposals, 1 goal), James Sicily (33 disposals) and Liam Shiels (30 disposals, 6 tackles) winning the midfield with big man Jonathan Ceglar (35 hitouts, 16 disposals) winning the ruck battle. Toby Greene played a lone hand in a depleted midfield for the Giants and may be in the votes with 38 disposals, 8 marks and 5 tackles.

The Pies are slowly recovering some form and the score line flattered Melbourne in the end. Brodie Grundy got the better of the ruck battle with 44 hitouts, 16 disposals and 7 tackles with Brodie Mihocek finishing the job with 4 goals from 12 disposals and 7 marks. The Power climbed back into the top 8 with a strong win in the wet against the Swans. The Lions showed no mercy against the Suns with a thumping victory on the back of 6 goals from best-on-ground Charlie Cameron. A miserable, embarrassing performance by Essendon will be the talking point of the week ahead as they suffered a 100+ point defeat at the hands of the Dogs. Josh Dunkley (39 disposals, 1 goal), Jack Macrae (38 disposals, 8 tackles, 1 goal) and Lachie Hunter (34 disposals, 9 marks) controlled the midfield and seem likely to fill the votes. Toby McLean (22 disposals, 3 goals) and Bailey Dale (19 disposals, 3 goals) were also good contributors.

Mitch Duncan (27 disposals), Gary Ablett (23 disposals, 10 marks), Quinton Narkle (21 disposals, 3 goals) and Tom Hawkins (16 disposals, 13 marks, 2 goals) are likely to fill the remaining vote getters.

Freo’s slim chances of reaching the finals slipped through their fingers in the dying minutes of the game as the Saints got the points. The Crows performed admirably but the Eagles held on to take away the valuable four points. Elliot Yeo (26 disposals) and Andrew Gaff (29 disposals) were among their best. The Crows held onto plenty of ball with Matt Crouch (43 disposals, 8 marks) getting leather poisoning and brother Brad Crouch (35 disposals, 6 tackles) also prolific. Up forward it was Darcy Fogarty who was dangerous with 5 goals from 12 disposals and 7 marks.
