AFL Round 17 West Coast vs Collingwood Betting Tips
We’ve got an absolute beaut of a match on our hands to kickstart what promises to be a fantastic round of AFL. The Grand Final rematch between the Eagles and the Magpies will start at 8:10pm AEST at Optus Stadium.
West Coast Eagles
The reigning premiers were ruthless in their demolition of the Dockers last weekend, making it nine straight Derby wins for the Eagles. For most of the day it looked as if the Eagles were playing with a dry ball, whereas the Dockers were playing with a wet one. They piled on 19 goals to the Dockers two to defeat their rivals by a whopping 91 points. Andrew Gaff was at his prolific best with 35 touches, while Cripps, Darling, and Cameron each kicked four majors.
The Eagles have now won three on the spin since their BYE in Round 13 and look like a side that’s more than capable of repeating last season’s heroics. They’re currently in second spot of the ladder and are just one win behind the Cats. Their run home is also quite favourable, which means the ball is well and truly in their court in terms of how far they go this season.
Collingwood Magpies
The Magpies have been in some indifferent form of late to say the least. They looked like claiming all four points against the Hawks at the MCG last Friday night, but again suffered a drop off in form late in the game to eventually go down to their rivals. It was a disappointing result overall, but one promising sign was the play of debutante Isaac Quaynor, who looked right at home in the Magpies backline. He collected 18 touches and took seven marks.
It’s certainly not time for panicking, but two wins from their past five matches has a lot of people questioning if they’re actually genuine premiership contenders. Despite their poor recent form, the Magpies remain in third spot on the ladder with 10 wins and five losses. They have a pretty tough run home, so it’s important they hit their straps sooner rather than later.
History
The Eagles have had the Magpies measure in recent times with four straight wins over them. Obviously, one of those wins was in last year’s Grand Final… Sorry to bring that up, Pies fans.

Key Betting Statistics
- Collingwood haven’t beaten West Coast in Perth since 2009
- West Coast’s last six matches have gone under the total points line
- West Coast have won the second half in their last four meetings with Collingwood
- Collingwood have won the first quarter in three of their last four meetings with West Coast
Prediction
These two clubs come into this Friday night match in completely contrasting form. The Eagles have been fantastic lately with three wins in a row and a huge 91-point win over the Dockers last weekend, while the Magpies have lost their last two and have quite an extensive injury list.
The Eagles come into this match as favourites, but only by around a three-goal margin, which is really surprising. They’re in much better touch than their new age rivals and have beaten them in each of their last four meetings. All things considered, we’re more than happy to back the Eagles to win and cover the small line in the process.
