2019 Copa America Semi-Finals Preview & Betting Tips

July 2nd 2019, 5:17pm, By: Jake Smit

We’re now down to just four teams in the 2019 Copa America with the semi-finals just around the corner! Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Peru all won their quarterfinal fixture and are just one win away from competing in the final.

Here, we take a look the two semi-final fixtures on mid-week and provide our best bet for each of them! Check out our tips below and good luck to everyone following!

2019 Copa America Semi-Finals Betting Tips

Brazil vs Argentina (Wednesday 10:30am AEST)

The first semi-final looms as the one to watch with heavyweights Brazil and Argentina going head-to-head for a place in the final. It’s expected to be a packed house at the Estadio Governador Magalhaes Pinto in Belo Horizonte, with kick-off expected from 10:30am(AEST) on Wednesday.

Brazil were our pick to win the Copa America prior to the tournament’s commencement, which has looked the goods so far apart from that nerve-racking penalty shootout against Paraguay in the semi-finals. Here’s how they’ve fared in the group and knockout stage so far:

GS1 – defeated Bolivia 3-0
GS2 – drew with Venezuela 0-0
GS3 – defeated Peru 5-0
QF – drew with Paraguay 0-0 (won 4-3 in pens)

Argentina were gifted one of the easier groups of the big names, although you wouldn’t have known that if you watched them play. They limped through their Group with one win from three fixtures but found some form in the knockout stage by defeating Venezuela. Argentina’s run so far:

GS1 – lost to Colombia 2-0
GS2 – drew with Paraguay 1-1
GS3 – defeated Qatar 2-0
QF – defeated Venezuela 2-0

We mentioned above that we liked Brazil taking out the entire tournament on their home soil. And we aren’t about to go back on that statement in this clash with the volatile Argentinians. They may possess arguably the best player of all time in Lionel Messi, but it’s well documented that he’s had his struggles playing for the national side. On the other hand, Brazil have looked the goods apart from their scare last time out, so we’re happy to have them at really nice odds here.

$1.91

Chile vs Peru (Thursday 10:30am AEST)

The second semi-final doesn’t quite have the same star-power involved as the first semi, although there’s still quality players littered throughout both Chile and Peru’s starting 11. This fixture is due to kick off at 10:30am (AEST) on Thursday at Arena do Gremio in Porto Alegre.

Chile have had a mixed bag at the Copa America this year. They came out of the blocks firing with a 4-0 domination of Japan and backed it up against Ecuador, although they suffered a defeat to Uruguay in their third and final group stage match to qualify second in Group C. They then went on to defeat the in-form Colombians in an intense penalty shootout in the quarterfinals to book their place in the final four. Here’s there four matches thus far:

GS1 – defeated Japan 4-0
GS2 – defeated Ecuador 2-1
GS3 – lost to Uruguay 1-0
QF – drew with Colombia 0-0 (won 5-4 in pens)

Peru are definitively the surprise packet of this tournament and were paying long odds to reach the final four. It’s not like they’ve been spectacular either. They’ve won just one of their four matches in normal time and were even thumped 5-0 by the host nation, Brazil, in their third group fixture. Peru’s run so far:

GS1 – drew with Venezuela 0-0
GS2 – defeated Bolivia 3-1
GS3 – lost to Brazil 5-0
QF – drew with Uruguay 0-0 (won 5-4 in pens)

Our best bet for the semi-finals will be in this match where we’ll be taking the favourites, Chile. They’ve got by far the better talent of the two nations and have looked more impressive in their four fixtures to date. We’re more than happy to take the near $2 on offer here for Chile to win this in normal time and progress through to the final.

Chile to Win

$1.89
