AFL Round 15 Geelong vs Adelaide Betting Tips
Friday 7:50pm AEST, GMHBA Stadium
This one should be a cracking match between two sides that will likely feature in the finals. The Cats will be hoping to bounce back from a loss to the Power last weekend, while the Crows are coming in fresh off a bye.
Geelong Cats
The Cats fell to the Power last weekend in a tight affair at Adelaide Oval, which was just their second loss of the season to date. The Power were the better team from start to finish and thoroughly deserved the four points, although the Cats were still playing at a fairly high level. Dangerfield was at his best with 27 touches and a goal, while Duncan (35 disposals) found plenty of it through the midfield.
The test now comes for a Crows side that has only lost two matches this season, the other being to the Giants by four points. They’ve shown the ability to absolutely shut teams out at home this year and play their narrow ground to perfection, which will what they’ll try to do on Friday night. Back-up ruckman Darcy Fort comes out of the side after a poor return last weekend, while young Lachie Fogarty comes in to the side.
Adelaide Crows
As mentioned above, the Crows come into this match fresh from a week off in Round 14 through the bye. Prior to that was a fantastic 33 point win over the Tigers in Adelaide, which they dominated for the majority of the four quarters. Reilly O’Brien absolutely monstered the Tigers ruck stocks that game with 19 touches and 54 hit-outs, while the Crouch brothers combined for 78 disposals through the midfield.
The Crows will be hoping that the week off will leave them in a good position to outrun the Cats this weekend, although the smaller ground in Geelong will prevent them from doing so in the most part. 22-year-old Ben Davis comes into the side for his first game at AFL level, and is expected to play mostly down forward to fill the Josh Jenkins void.
History
The home team has only lost twice in the past 17 meetings between these teams, one of which was in Round 3 this season. The Crows lead the head-to-head 3-2 over the past five meetings.
2019 R3 – Adelaide (75) lost to Geelong (99)
2018 R17 – Adelaide (112) defeated Geelong (97)
2017 PF – Adelaide (136) defeated Geelong (75)
2017 R18 – Adelaide (91) defeated Geelong (70)
2017 R11 – Geelong (96) defeated Adelaide (74)
Prediction
The Cats come into this as around three and a half goal favourites, which we don’t totally agree with. They’re by far the better of the two teams and showed that in their earlier meeting this season. Also, the Cats haven’t lost to the Crows in Geelong since way back in 2003, which we give them even more confidence. We expect the Cats to be far too strong here and run away comfortable winners.
