With the Bali Pro just finishing only days ago, we are back in Australia for the Margaret River Pro held in Margaret River Western Australia from May 29th-June 9th.
WSL Margaret River Pro Betting Tips
The most recent contest in Bali, Indonesia went the full distance with the WSL organizes finally getting enough swell to finish the competition within the required time frame. Kanoa Igarashi took out his maiden WSL event after defeating Jeremy Flores in a surprising final. Igarashi has surfed well this year and is now ranked second behind Hawaiian John John Florence. The Huntington Beach native has now reached the round of 16 twice this year in Australia and now has taken out the Corona Bali Pro. Igarashi has now proved he is ready to compete with the veterans and now should be aiming as high for a world title.
The 2017 Pipe Masters winner Jeremy Flores found some much needed success reaching the final in Bali. Flores has always shown a lot of emotion in the ocean and he has pushed hard early show that he’s still got some flare. Flores made the third round in the Gold Coast and the fourth round at Bells and after a successful Bali contest he is right up there in the rankings and you may just see him reach the finals in Margaret River.
Since the Margaret River contest began in 2014 Jordy Smith has made the quarter finals three out of the last five years. Smith has started like a house on fire early in the 2019 season, with two semi final appearances at the Gold Coast event and Bells Beach. If only Bali was successful you may well have seen him ranked inside the top three but he couldn’t seem to find the right waves in small conditions at Keramas.
John John Florence put on the most crazy performance at Margaret River in 2017 when he won the event, and now he’s back again to do it all over again. Just like Jordy Smith, Florence has been consistent at this event since 2014 with two final appearances and a win in convincing fashion over Kolohe Andino in 2017. Florence still leads the standings after he failed to make the finals at Keramas.
Last year’s Interrupted Margaret River saw young Brazilian Willian Cardoso Knock out Filipe Toledo in the quarters and then went on to defeat Julian Wilson in the Final. Cardoso is in the middle of the rankings at the moment and has started this year promising.
The best ranked Australian in WSL standings is Wade Carmichael who is in tenth position. Carmichael has only competed in one Margaret River contest and that was last year when he failed to get passed round two. The 2019 Margaret River Pro should be different for Carmichael, who so far has put together some good early performances on tour.
I’m predicting we may see some solid performances from Medina, Florence and Ferreira at Margs after they all took surprise exits in Bali.
