2019 AFL: Round 6 Sunday Preview & Betting Tips

April 27th 2019, 1:21pm, By: Jake Smit

There’s been so much footy on over the past 10 days and Sunday is no exception with another two games on the card for Round 6. As usual, we’ve scoured the markets to find the best value picks for the games on offer, which we’ve detailed below with our previews. Good luck to everyone following!

AFL Round 6 Sunday Betting Tips

Hawthorn Hawks vs Carlton Blues (Sunday 3:20pm AEST)

A bit of a later kick off on Sunday this round with the Hawks taking on the Blues at 3:20pm (AEST) at the University of Tasmania Stadium. The Hawks absolutely hammered the blues in this fixture last season and will look to continue their dominance in Tasmania where they’ve won 24 of their last 27 matches.

Hawthorn started off the season like a house on fire with a huge away win to the Crows in Round 1, but since then they’ve looked a lot more like the bottom 10 team that many experts had them finishing during the pre-season. They’re coming off a disappointing 23-point loss to the Cats on Easter Monday where they were blown out in the middle two quarters.

After four close games to start the season, Carlton finally registered their first win in Round 5. We were adamant about their chances against the Bulldogs and they certainly delivered, crushing them by 44 points. It was another impressive display from young key forward Harry McKay who continues to be strong in pack mark scenarios.

It’s a little bit of a tricky one to predict with both teams being so up and down. However, we believe that the Blues are playing good enough to keep this close enough to give themselves a chance of back-to-back wins, covering the spread in the process.

Geelong Cats vs West Coast Eagles (Sunday 4:40pm AEST)

Round 6 has saved the best until last with early flag-fancies Geelong hosting the reigning premiers at 4:40pm (AEST) at GMHBA Stadium. The Cats have won the last six at home against the Eagles and will be full of confidence after a terrific start to the season.

Geelong bounced back from a rare home loss to the Giants with an impressive Easter Monday display against the Hawks. A win on the big occasion never really looked in doubt after quarter time as Ablett, Selwood and co. turned back the clock to deliver their fans a win. The Cats regained top spot on the ladder and are sitting pretty at 4-1 after five rounds.

The Eagles were just about the most disappointing team in Round 5 where they got embarrassed on their home deck by a rampant Port Adelaide outfit. They simply never got out of first gear and struggled to gain any sort of momentum. One positive from the loss was the play of young forward Jack Petruccelle, who kicked five goals and earned himself a Rising Star nomination.

As mentioned above, the Eagles have found playing in Geelong really tough for a number of years now and we expect Sunday to be no different. The Cats are playing inspired footy at the momentum and we see them being too good on their home deck.
