After a total of 3 golden point finishes in Round 4, Round 5 will hopefully deliver more exciting finishes as a number of rivalry matchups are on the slate. Round 5 of the 2019 NRL season starts this Thursday and we have you covered with our NRL betting tips for every match.
NRL Round 5 Betting Tips
Brisbane Broncos vs Wests Tigers (Thursday, Apr 11 7:50pm AEDT)
Thursday night football sees the Brisbane Broncos host the Tigers at Suncorp Stadium. Both sides aren't in great form so this will likely be a close finish. Brisbane's defence was non-existent last week as the Roosters cruised to a 36-4 victory. In Penrith, the Tigers somehow lost to the Panthers by a field goal in golden point. In this matchup, it does look to be fairly low scoring considering both sides are scoring just 17 points per game. Wests are the better defensive side having allowed 10.8 ppg and Brisbane should improve defensively on their home deck as the Tigers attack is struggling lately. Under is 3-1 involving the Tigers this year and 7-0 when they play interstate. It's also 5-1 against the Broncos in night games.

Gold Coast Titans vs Penrith Panthers (Friday, Apr 12 6:00pm AEDT)
In this matchup, the only winless side in the NRL (Titans) will take on the Panthers on the Gold Coast. This matchup features the two worst scoring sides in the NRL so you would figure this to be a grinding type of affair. Gold Coast are coming off a 26-10 loss in New Zealand but they should be desperate to avoid an 0-5 start. Nathan Cleary was the hero in the Panthers 9-8 victory over the Tigers. In this matchup, the last 2 meetings at this venue have ended in a margin of a single point and this could be 3rd in a likely low scoring affair. Gold Coast is 6-3 against the Under versus the Panthers and the only game here this season totalled just 21 points.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Melbourne Storm (Friday, Apr 12 7:55pm AEDT)
The Melbourne Storm take their undefeated record to Townsville for a clash against the Cowboys. Melbourne weren't at their 100% best last week but found a way in an 18-16 victory. The home side has struggled in its last 2 home games, allowing a total of 72 points. Their record against the Storm is also poor at 0-8 SU and 3-8 ATS. With the number 1 ranked defence in the NRL (Storm) up against the worst defence in the Cowboys, you have to figure Melbourne will win this comfortably.
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs New Zealand Warriors (Saturday, Apr 13 3:00pm AEDT)
Super Saturday begins on the Sunshine Coast as the Rabbitohs face the Warriors. With the neutral venue in play, this does look like a tough game to predict. Even though Souths were upset by the Sea Eagles last week in golden point, they're comfortable favourites in the betting. But they're still missing inspirational captain Greg Inglis. The Warriors form guide is hard to read. They've won both games at Mt Smart easily but struggled in their last trip to Australia. In the last 7 meetings between these two sides, the margin has been over 10 points so this will be a safe no bet.

Newcastle Knights vs Manly Sea Eagles (Saturday, Apr 13 5:30pm AEDT)
The 1-3 Knights will be desperate this Saturday as they face the Sea Eagles at home. Newcastle's attack is the main issue, having scoring 12.5 points per game. But their defence always keeps them in the contest. Meanwhile, Manly are coming in hot after 2 upsets but the hamstring injury to Tom Trbojevic is a big blow. In the last 3 meetings, the average margin is just 3 points so this matchup should see a similar result with the Unders getting up. Both sides scored 12 points last week and all 4 games involving the Knights this season have gone Under the total.

Cronulla Sharks vs Sydney Roosters (Saturday, Apr 13 7:35pm AEDT)
Super Saturday concludes in the Shire as the Sharks tackle the Roosters. The home side is looking to rebound after a 24-12 loss to the Eels but they were missing Gallen and Johnson, who return this week. Meanwhile, the Roosters made a statement last week as they thrashed the Broncos 36-4. These two sides met in the finals last year and the Roosters won a grinding contest 21-12. The Sharks should improve in attack this week with Johnson in the lineup and that should see a fairly high scoring game considering the Roosters strong scoring power. At home after a loss, the Sharks are 4-2 against the Over and the Roosters hold a 4-1 Overs record at this venue in night games.

St George Dragons vs Canterbury Bulldogs (Sunday, Apr 14 4:50pm AEDT)
Another rivalry matchup in Round 5 features the Dragons and Bulldogs at Jubilee on Sunday afternoon. Both sides are showing good form at the moment so this should be an entertaining clash. Canterbury have beaten the Tigers at Campbelltown and just lost in Melbourne last week. The Dragons have played in two straight games decided by the boot of Corey Norman as he has nailed two field goals. The last meeting was played at this venue and the Bulldogs crushed the Dragons 38-0 but that shouldn't be the case in this one. When the Dragons play at Jubilee in day games, the Over is 5-1 and this should be a fairly high scoring affair once again. The Bulldogs also hold a 5-2-1 Overs record in day games against the Dragons.

Canberra Raiders vs Parramatta Eels (Sunday, Apr 14 6:10pm AEDT)
GIO Stadium hosts an intriguing clash between the 3-1 Raiders and 3-1 Eels. Canberra is looking for a 3rd straight win after beating the Cowboys and Knights in consecutive weeks. Meanwhile, Parramatta is looking stronger in 2019 after their 3-1 start. However, their record in Canberra is very, very poor with just 4 wins in 21 starts since the early 1990s. The last meeting went to the Raiders 18-2 as well. The Green Machine's defence is looking much improved in 2019 and that should see them stop the Eels attacking flow. It's hard to back against the Raiders 17-4 SU record against the Eels in Canberra.
