Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for Hawkesbury and Sandown Lakeside on Wednesday, March 20th.
The track is currently a Heavy 9 at Hawkesbury, while it's a Good 4 at Sandown. Both tracks have the rail in the true position.
We have eight selections from the day's racing below!
HAWKESBURY RACING TIPS
RACE 1
Even little maiden to kick off the card. I'm quite interested in Disco Mo here, but it's hard to be confident on a horse that's on debut on a Heavy 9 track. With that said, I liked his trial at Randwick, where he settled last and worked home nicely into 3rd with more up his sleeve. That was on a Soft 7 track which is encouraging and I don't think he finds a particularly strong race today. His main danger could be Great Affair but that horse's last trial was at the start of December, so he's clearly had an issue, and Tommy Berry rode him in his past two trials but sticks with Disco Mo after riding him in his only trial. Sound Off has been $34 into $7.50 with the blinkers going back on today. It's a scary race to bet into but I'll be having something small on Disco Mo on debut.
RACE 4
This is a very competitive race but there's a couple at eachway odds that appeal. Shadow Bridge resumes from a 19-week break with two trials under the belt. He had two starts last preparation and won both. Notably, in the lead up to last prep, he won his first trial by 7.3L on Heavy ground. His breeding also suggests he'll handle very heavy conditions. At $8.00 I don't think he's a bad bet. Consider It Done resumed in a 955m race at Moonee Valley and had absolutely no luck whatsoever. He settled on the rail behind the leader and never saw daylight. He won't have that problem from barrier 12 here and he drops from a BM78 to a BM70. $13 looks a huge price. Traumatised not hopless with McEvoy a notable jockey booking.
Value: Consider It Done $13
RACE 5
The talented Multaja finds a very winnable race here after resuming with no luck in the G3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes at Moonee Valley. She sat four-wide without cover and was only beaten 3L in the end. The form out of that race has already stood up with the runner-up winning her next start. She carries 60kg here but James McDonald takes the ride, this is a suitably easy race for her if she brings her best form and if she handles the heavy going, she should be winning. You don't need me to tell you how well the stable is going!
RACE 7
Very keen to follow Amangiri here who saluted as our best bet of the day last start. She bolted in by 3.3L at Kensington over 1550m, despite sitting three-wide on speed for a part of the race. Up 50m to the mile today and while the heavy ground is somewhat of a small query, the All Too Hard progeny have so far proved they can generally handle it. Drawn well in barrier 3, should find a position up on speed, the stable is flying and I'd be disappointed if she wasn't able to beat this field.
RACE 8
Typically these staying races aren't for me but there's a couple at reasonable prices that I'll be having something small on. Allcash finds a winnable race after being beaten a nose last start. He's had two 2400m runs leading into this and should be rock-hard fit. He's gone close on heavy ground previously and James McDonald sticks with him today. $7.50 is a good enough price for me to back him, but today might be his last chance. Shaman was a 7.6L winner on hevy ground at Gosford two starts ago. While Gosford form rarely translates into metro form, the heavy ground might bring him right into this. Carries just 53kg on his back and happy to have something on at $6.50.
Also backing: Shaman $6.50
SANDOWN LAKESIDE RACING TIPS
RACE 1
We backed Dunlani at good odds at Moonee Valley last start and she won pretty impressively, making a long sustsained run before fighting on strong in the straight to win. The margin may have only been small but she did all the work and there was a 7L break back to the third horse. That was only her second run of the prep and her first go at 2000m so she should still improve off that and I think she's a nice staying filly for the future. She can win again here.
RACE 2
Pretty keen to back Frivolosophy here. She's on debut for the Hawkes stable, which is in great form at the moment. I think she finds a very winnable maiden and she's had two good jumpouts leading into this. In those jumpouts, she's finished alongside the likes of Josephine Sea and Mister Sea Wolfe, who are both much better horses than what she faces today! She's also shown good speed so I expect her to try and hold the lead from barrier 1. If she does, I think she'll kick away and be right in the finish. Think we're getting a good price here at $4.40.
RACE 5
Another runner for the Hawkes stable that I'll be backing is Feather, who has had two runs up in Sydney without a great deal of luck. She comes down to Melbourne third up tonight and gets away from the wet tracks, which should suit her much better as she broke her maiden by 3L on good ground last preparation. This could actually be an easier race than her last race in Sydney so she looks well placed. Biggest danger could be Pressure at $6.00, so have a saver on her at the price.
