2018 PGA Championship Betting Tips
The Course
Not traditionally a course that host big events, the Bellerive Country Club hasn’t hosted a PGA event since the BMW Championship in 2008. It hosted a U.S Open back in 1965 and a PGA Championship in 1992 but organisers predict that this will be the biggest tournament in the courses history.
The course will play at 7,316 yard par 70 for the weekend’s tournament and is lined with thick trees and shrub that should pose a tough contest for the world’s best. However, the main feature of the Bellerive Golf Course has to be their bunkers, which are littered around the course and extremely deep. The average length of greenside bunker shots is 25 yards to the middle of the green, and some players could face greenside bunker shots of up to 100 yards this weekend.
The location of the bunkers means that accuracy off the tee and into the green should reign king this weekend. Length isn’t a massive issue at Bellerive, so look for the high fairway percentage and green in regulation players when filling out you tips this weekend.
The Field
The $10,500,000 purse for this tournament has once again attracted a great field for the PGA Championship. Justin Thomas will be back to defend his title and is in some hot form after winning the WGC Bridgestone on the weekend.
Dustin Johnson leads the betting market after a fantastic fourth round -6 catapulted him into the top ten in the WGC. Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler headline the other major contenders while the star-studded field is backed up by the likes of Justin Rose, Jason Day, Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood.

It’s so hard to look past Justin Thomas here. After a disappointing performance in The Open Championship a few weeks ago, he bounced back in a big way to dominate the WGC Bridgestone. He was the only player in the competition to shoot four rounds in the 60s and has arguably been the most in form golfer of the 2018 season so far. HOWEVER, we are looking elsewhere for value this weekend and chasing some form from the Aussie Jason Day.
Day was fantastic through the first three rounds of the WGC, shooting 65, 66, and 69 before a final round 73 saw him slip to equal tenth in the final standings. Day already boasts two wins this season and his last three starts have resulted in a 12th, 17th and 10th in the Travelers, Open and WGC respectively. Day is second amongst all golfers in sand save percentage this season with a 63% save rate, which should keep him in good stead with the tough bunkers this weekend.

Maybe the purest player from tee to green in all of golf is Swede Henrik Stenson. He ranks 2nd in driving accuracy this season and 1st in GIR percentage. That’s an amazing feat and he has now played two tournaments since coming back from an elbow injury, finishing in the 30s in both the British Open and the WGC. I feel like this is the tournament where he gets back to his best, which saw him place 6th in both the Masters and the U.S Open earlier this year.
