Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Happy Valley on Wednesday, July 11th.
This is the penultimate meeting of the Hong Kong season, with Zac Purton and Joao Moreira fighting it out in a stirring battle for the Hong Kong Jockeys’ Championship.
We’ve provided our best bets for the meeting below.
HAPPY VALLEY RACING TIPS
RACE 3 #2 MR RIGHT
A couple of big positives tonight with a drop in Class from Class 3 to Class 4 and the inside barrier, which has accounted for six winners from 28 races over this track and distance this season with the rail in the A position (more than any other barrier). The favourite draws barrier 2, which is yet to produce a winner over track and distance on the A course this season. The horse has a good record over the 1000m at Happy Valley with six wins and four placings from 25 starts and gets his chance to break through once again tonight at $5.50.
RACE 4 #8 CHARITY WINGS
A rare Zac Purton runner at good odds here. We’re getting $8 about this horse and although he has about four lengths to make up on the favourite Sichuan Boss, he’s capable of doing so. He’s only won the one race from 14 starts but that win came over track and distance earlier this prep and last start was his first run for a month, although he did have a trial in between. Purton replaces Derek Leung tonight and from the good draw he should be able to stake a claim at each way odds.
RACE 5 #4 SKY MEOLDY
Ran well over track and distance last start from a horror barrier draw and gets both a good barrier draw and Zac Purton back on tonight. In fact, barrier 3 is the most successful barrier over this track and distance on the A course this season, with six winners from 27 races (double any other barrier). Failed over 1800m two starts ago but worth giving another go to tonight.
RACE 7 #8 SOLOMON’S BAY
Possibly Moreira’s best chance tonight and looks one of the better bets on the card. This horse has had two starts in Hong Kong and both have been good. He was only beaten 0.3L first up before finishing 4th behind the hugely talented Hot King Prawn. He’s since been back to the trials where he won comfortably and Moreira goes on tonigh for the first time. It’s notable that Moreira chooses not to ride the John Size horse Gunnison which he won aboard two starts ago, instead choosing to go with Frankie Lor’s horse. Drawn well and hard to beat.
