Unfortunately, we hit on just two of eight bets in last weekend’s AFL action after we missed three lines by a combined 12 points! We’ll look to bounce back this weekend as we take a look at the Round 10 AFL action starting with the Friday night clash at Etihad Stadium between Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs!
Both the Magpies and the Bulldogs will be playing their third Friday night clash of the 2018 season so far when they face off on the weekend and both will be looking to put real pressure on the top eight with a win. Collingwood currently sit in 10th place on the ladder with a 5-4 record through their nine games and will be coming off a good win against St Kilda at Etihad Stadium in Round 9.
The Pies midfield proved to be too good for the Saints as Steele Sidebottom, Tom Phillips and Scott Pendlebury all had great games in the win. The real barometer for the Pies, however, is the form of their ruckman Brodie Grundy. The star big man had another 42 hit-outs and 23 disposals in the win over the Saints and could pose a massive threat to the Dogs on Friday night, who have been without a front-line ruckman all season.
The Western Bulldogs were outplayed by Adelaide in terrible conditions on Friday night as they kicked just two goals for the entire match in the 37-point loss. Jack Macrae was once again a standout performer, racking up 36 disposals and 13 tackles in the loss but he couldn’t get enough help in the midfield as the Crows rolled.
The last time the two teams met for premiership points was all the way back in Round 1 of last season. The Bulldogs came out 24-point victors in that match as Lachie Hunter, Marcus Bontempelli and Jason Johannisen kicked 7 goals between them. Unfortunately for the Dogs, they’ve had to rely on too much of the same from their midfielders so far this season, as they have really struggled to find a consistent key forward to look to. Billy Gowers is currently their leading goal kicker with just 12 goals, followed by Bontempelli with 10.
Hard for me to get past the Grundy factor here. Collingwood already possess one of the most talented midfields in the league and it should get that much better with the supply that Grundy will no doubt be able to supply against a mismatch of Dogs ruckmen. The form of Jordan De Goey in the game against the Saints was also ominous, kicking six goals in the win. I like the Pies to win this one and move to 6-4 on the season.
