One again Before You Bet is back with our rolling Brownlow Medal Tracker for the 2018 season. We’ll be providing comments for every game of the season, along with our vote predictions to help with your projections for the 2018 AFL season.
Our Brownlow predictions are one of the most popular aspects of the site with punters able to scoop huge profits using the information found in these pages. You’ll be able to stay up to date with our current Top 20 2018 Brownlow Medal leaderboard, while there will be links to every single round-by-round voting posted there.
For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can form a 'range' for each player (ie a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
If you intend on using our Brownlow votes to bet why not consider one of the best Australian sports betting sites which offer some great incentives for new customers. Shaun McKernan was a big presence up forward with 4 goals from 16 disposals and 11 marks, while Cale Hooker was a rock at half-back with 21 possessions and 11 marks to win the Tom Wills Medal. Sydney were too strong for Freo with the backline of Jake Lloyd (41 disposals, 15 marks, 1 goal), Jarrad McVeigh (31 disposals, 6 marks) and Dean Rampe (22 disposals, 5 marks) proving too tough to penetrate. Up forward, Lance Franklin returned with a solid contribution of 19 disposals, 9 marks and 3 goals. Ed Langdon was best for Freo with 29 disposals and a goal, while Nat Fyfe had 28 disposals and a goal, but probably not enough to get among the votes.

After a great win last week, the Blues crashed back down to Earth with a thumping by the Dees. Jake Melksham kicked 5 goals from 21 touches, and Tom McDonald bagged 4 majors from his 20 disposals in a dominant forward line display. Nathan Jones was the typical workhorse in the middle with 31 disposals and a goal, and was supported by Angus Brayshaw who had 24 disposals and 11 tackles. Big Max Gawn won the ruck battle with 44 hitouts, 12 disposals and 2 goals to continue his excellent season. Patrick Cripps tried hard for the Blues with 31 disposals, 8 marks, 9 tackles and a goal.

Brisbane 20.9.129 def Hawthorn 11.7.73
This match will be a tricky, yet very important one when it comes to Brownlow votes. Brisbane got the win and had some standout players, but there were some big numbers from the Hawks as well. Hugh McCluggage was one of the best with 27 disposals, while Dane Beams (28 disposals, 8 marks, 2 goals) and Dayne Zorko (30 disposals, 12 tackles, 1 goal) were typically prolific. Eric Hipwood was the finisher with 4 goals from his 12 touches. It’s hard to think that Tom Mitchell might not get a vote here for his 46 disposals and a goal. He had 16 in the first quarter alone, but then was quieter for the rest of the game.
Dayne Beams – 2
Hugh McCluggage – 2
Dayne Zorko – 1
Tom Mitchell - 1
West Coast 20.10.130 def Richmond 12.11.83
The top-of-the-table clash would see big Jack Darling lead the Eagles to a thumping victory. Darling was enormous with 6 goals from 21 possessions and 15 marks for a clear three votes. Elliot Yeo (29 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Andrew Gaff (24 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal) were again good in the midfield, while Jeremy McGovern (14 possessions, 9 marks, 1 goal) and Shannon Hurn (20 disposals, 8 marks) were difficult to get past across half-back. Jack Riewoldt played a lone hand for the Tigers with 5 goals.
Jack Darling – 3
Elliot Yeo – 2
Jack Riewoldt – 1
