Another Saturday in the AFL and another $40,000 guaranteed up for grabs in Draftstars major tournament of the weekend. Don’t worry, we’ll be back with a fantasy team for Wednesday’s MONSTER $100k Anzac Day tournament, but for now, we preview the four game Saturday slate and provide our team below.
Defenders: Jeremy Finlayson, Aaron Naughton
Jeremy Finlayson has been a revelation for the Giants this season. Not only is he already a well above average one on one defender and third man up, his ball use is elite for a big man. The Giants give him the ball coming out of defence every opportunity they get and it shows with an average of 80 over the past three weeks.
Naughton has struggled a bit in the opening rounds of the season but he’s in this week purely because I like the Bulldogs vs Dockers game for fantasy scorers this weekend. I think it should be a free-flowing game with plenty of run and carry off half back so look for Naughton to provide good value.
Midfielders: Nat Fyfe, Stephen Coniglio, Andrew Gaff, Hunter Clark
As I said above, I love the matchup for Nat Fyfe here. The Dogs have proved themselves to be an easy opposition to score on so far this year and Fyfe has looked really ominous in the opening rounds. As for Coniglio and Gaff, they play St Kilda and Carlton respectively, so I’m expecting some massive scores in both of those games, which will likely be blowouts in their teams favour.
Clark is purely a value play. At just $6,700 he is the cheapest midfielder who is actually playing this weekend and did have a decent outing of 58 on the weekend.
Forwards: Mitchell Crowden, Tim English
Two young players in the forward line this weekend in Tim English and Mitchell Crowden. English has been fantastic so far this season as a forward/ruck combo and had 90 points against Sydney last weekend. Has a tough matchup against Sandilands this weekend but doesn’t really rely on hitouts to score. Is much more mobile than the Fremantle ruckman so should be able to get plenty of marks and disposals. Crowden is a cheap option at just $8,100 and played well in his third game with 78 on the weekend.
Ruck: Nic Naitanui
Nic Nat had 33 hitouts last weekend for a score of 82 points. No Matty Kreuzer for the Blues this weekend which makes his job easy and we expect him to get plenty of opportunity as the Eagles will most likely dominate the game.
