Super Rugby Round 7 Betting Tips
Chiefs vs Highlanders (Friday, Mar 30 5:35pm AEDT)
The Chiefs are cruising into this matchup after three straight wins and a 61-10 thrashing of the Sunwolves last week. They also beat the Highlanders 24-15 in the last meeting. So they’ll be confident of another victory. While for the Highlanders, they’re coming off a tough loss against the Hurricanes. They conceded 29 points in the loss last week and it’s hard to see them slowing down the Chiefs. The Chiefs are averaging 38 points per match and look like one of the best Super Rugby teams in attack. Interestingly since 2015, the Highlanders are 5-0 after a loss. So that probably explains why these two sides can’t really be split in the betting. The Chiefs also might be affected after travelling from Japan last week and 6 days rest is concerning. So in the end, that should keep this close until the end.

Rebels vs Hurricanes (Friday, Mar 30 7:45pm AEDT)
The match of the round will be played between the Rebels and Hurricanes at AAMI Park this Friday. The Hurricanes thrashed them 71-6 last season. But the story of this season is the Rebels are a different side. With a number of former Force players, they have improved. They responded last week from a 51-27 loss against the Waratahs with a 46-14 win over the Sharks at home. In their three home matches so far, the Rebels have scored an average of 41 points. The Hurricanes are the best defensive side in Super Rugby so that will be the key for them. They’re coming into this clash with two straight wins and kept the Highlanders to just 12 points last week. But the line for the Rebels is great value on their home turf. They’re 4-1 ATS this season and previous losses against the Hurricanes shouldn’t matter.
TIP: Rebels +10.5 - $1.93 at CrownBet
Blues vs Sharks (Saturday, Mar 31 5:35pm AEDT)
Both the Blues and Sharks are 1-3 this season (Sharks have a draw as well). So this is a crucial matchup as the losing side’s season will be close to over. For the Blues, they’ll be looking forward to a home match after 3 of 4 on the road this season. They went 1-2 in those three matches and beat the Lions by 3 points. While for the Sharks, they’ve lost two in a row in Australia against the Brumbies and Rebels. The Rebels loss was particularly poor as they went down 46-14. They have lost all three matches on the road this season and the travel factor could hurt them once again here.
TIP: Blues -13.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
Brumbies vs Waratahs (Saturday, Mar 31 7:45pm AEDT)
Saturday night Super Rugby action in Australia will be an interesting clash between the Brumbies and Waratahs. Both sides won before last week’s bye and this a crucial matchup in the Australian conference as they chase the Rebels. The Brumbies enjoyed their first home match of the season as they beat the Sharks 24-17. After three straight losses on the road, they should once again enjoy home field advantage. In the Waratahs last match, they were superb in the second half against the Rebels as they thrashed them 51-27. They can score quick points but the Brumbies 4th ranked Super Rugby defence should be able to keep them quiet. The Brumbies also seem to have their number with 3 straight wins over NSW. This should be another close contest and I have the Brumbies winning at home mostly due to their record over the Waratahs.
TIP: Brumbies WIN - $2.25 at Sportsbet
Bulls vs Stormers (Sunday, Apr 1 2:15am AEDT)
In this South African matchup, the Stormers will look to continue their winning ways. Last week, they beat the Reds 25-19 at home and previously beat the Blues 37-20. While for the Bulls, they’ve lost 4 straight matches. The last three losses have been on the road so they’ll be looking forward to a home match. Their defence is the concern as they’ve allowed 32 points per match. They also lost both matches against the Stormers last season. So I’ll be backing the Stormers to cover a fairly short line.
TIP: Stormers -2.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
Lions vs Crusaders (Sunday, Apr 1 10:30pm AEDT)
The last match of the round is the 2017 Final rematch as the Lions host the Crusaders. The Crusaders won the Final 25-17 at this venue so the Lions will be looking for revenge. However, their current form isn’t great. They lost to the Jaguares 49-35 last week and have been very poor defensively. They rank 3rd last in Super Rugby with 34 points allowed per match. So the Crusaders will look to take advantage. They’re coming off a 33-14 win over the Bulls and should continue scoring points against the out of form Lions. They also have a 6-1 record against the Lions and have a 4-1 ATS record at this venue.
TIP: Crusaders -5.5 - $1.91 at Ladbrokes
