AFL is back with a bang, and with it come some monster daily fantasy prize pools and guaranteed contests! As we did last season, we’ll be bringing you our best fantasy tips of the week for the Saturday slate every round this year! Catch our Round 1 tips of the week below.
Round 1 Saturday major tournaments:
Draftstars - $50k guaranteed
Moneyball – TBC
PlayON - $2,000 guaranteed
Defender
Sam Murray (Collingwood)
Round 1 is always a chance to load up on those rookie talents that are still cheap as chips and the one that we really like in defence is Sam Murray from the Pies. Named on the ground for Collingwood Saturday night, Murray will play a key role in defence for the Pies in the absence of Levi Greenwood and Tyson Goldsack. Played Week 2 of the JLT series and racked up 24 touches and 93 fantasy points. Expect Murray to get a lot of game time and at rookie prices, we can’t say no to him here.
Midfielder
Nick Holman (Gold Coast)
Holman averaged 14 touches a game over the two JLT games and should get a great chance in the midfield throughout the rebuilding year that the Suns are surely destined for. He is cheap as chips at just under $6,000 at Draftstars and although he’s named on the bench, thay shouldn’t hinder anyone from picking him up as he’s one of the only midfield rookie options this Saturday.
Forward
Cameron Rayner (Brisbane)
Rayner had a quiet game in Round 1 of the JLT series but bounced back in the second game against the Suns. He collected 13 touches and laid a team high 10 tackles on his way to 84 fantasy points, and is named on the ground for the Lions against the Saints on Saturday. Missed two shots at goal in the game against the Suns, so should be a regular threat in front of the sticks. One of the more promising rookies in the AFL in my opinion.
Ruck
Aaron Sandilands (Fremantle)
Once the most dominant force in rucking stocks in the AFL, Sandilands has become the forgotten ruck in recent years. Played both JLT games and looked great, racking up 52 hit-outs across the two games. We think he is primed for a great season and is one of the cheaper ruck options on Saturday.
