Round 3 of the AFLW season is here and we are 4-4 on the season. The Bulldogs, Blues and Demons all sit atop the ladder with 2-0 records and a 3-0 start is a huge advantage so watch those sides. Meanwhile, the Premiers from last season (Crows) are 0-2 and will be looking to upset the Bulldogs in the first match of the round.
AFL Women's Round 3 Betting Tips
Adelaide v Western Bulldogs (Saturday, February 17, 2.05pm AEDT)
The Bulldogs have leapt out of the gates to start the season 2-0. They easily beat the Dockers in Round 1 and showed their class with a road win against the Lions last week. The same can’t be said for the Crows as they’ve struggled without a few stars. Erin Phillips has missed the first two and could play here. While in defence, they miss Cramey and now vice-captain Angela Foley is out suspended. So the Bulldogs are looking the goods at 1-24. I can’t see a blowout, especially since this in Adelaide but the Bulldogs will have enough points in them to win 1-24 as the value bet.
TIP: Bulldogs 1-24 at CrownBet ($2.25)
Carlton v Brisbane (Saturday, February 17, 7.40pm AEDT)
Our top pick for the AFLW Grand Final this season was the Blues and they have backed that up with a 2-0 start. However, a season ending injury to captain Davey is a huge blow and Tayla Harris injured herself against the Giants. Meanwhile in Brisbane, they’re 1-1 after a first up win against Adelaide and a home loss against the Bulldogs. Their season doesn’t get any easier as they travel to Ikon Park this Saturday. Last year, these two sides played in the first ever AFLW draw so this should be another close one. In this matchup, Carlton will miss their skipper but that should spur them on to win this match and the GF for her. Carlton are 3-0 (1 draw) at Ikon Park and they should have just enough points in them to beat the Lions.
TIP: Carlton WIN at CrownBet ($1.75)
Collingwood v GWS (Sunday, February 18, 4.35pm AEDT)
Both the Magpies and Giants are 0-2 on the season so this is an important 4 points for the winning side. For Collingwood, this is their first home match of the season and they trashed the Giants 55-19 at this venue last season. They had 20 shots on goal in that victory, so they will be the value play at the line here. The Giants are now 1-7 (1 draw) in their 9 AFLW matches and have been a hard side to read so far. They were good against the Demons with a 6 point loss in Melbourne but could only manage 1.3 against the Blues at home (albeit in terrible conditions). So based on last season, it’s hard to see the Magpies dropping this match at home.
TIP: Collingwood -1.5 at William Hill ($1.90)
Fremantle v Melbourne (Sunday, February 18, 6.35pm AEDT)
Melbourne is flying at the moment with two impressive wins and they are arguably the best Grand Final pick at the moment. Their attack has been boosted by the likes of Tegan Cunningham as they’ve scored an average of 50.5 points in their two wins so far. Meanwhile, Fremantle opened the Optus Stadium with an impressive comeback victory over the Magpies. They are back at Fremantle Oval for this one and will definitely need to start scoring early on against the Demons. They have started slowly against the Bulldogs and Magpies, which is a huge concern. The Demons also beat them by 54 points in the last round of the 2017 season. So Melbourne to lead this one throughout the match is the best bet.
