2017-18 EPL: Week 9 Preview & Betting Tips

October 18th 2017, 7:34pm, By: SundayLeagueShark

It was just one of those weeks for us last weekend in our EPL betting tips as we went 0/5 with some horror losses. We tipped Manchester United to defeat Liverpool and they just couldn’t muster anything better than a 0-0 draw. We tipped Manchester City to defeat Stoke to nil and although they dominated them, the final score line was 7-2. We tipped both Leicester and Everton to get wins over inferior opponents and while both teams outplayed their opposition, could only secure 1-1 draws.

We’ll look for a bounce back weekend as we preview and give our tips for Week 9 of the EPL below.

EPL Week 9 Betting Tips

Chelsea vs Watford (Saturday 10.30pm AEST)

Watford stunned the EPL with a fantastic 2-1 win over Arsenal last weekend and have been the surprise packet of the season so far with a 4-3-1 record to currently sit 4th on the table. Chelsea sit only one spot behind Watford but have been pretty disappointing over the last few weeks with two losses in a row to Manchester City and a shock defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

While the current form might favour Watford, the history between the two teams gives the nod to the Blues. Chelsea have lost just one of the previous eight meetings with the Hornets and will welcome the return home to Stamford Bridge. They have a tough UCL matchup at home against Roma Thursday morning so could be playing some unfamiliar names in their game against Watford.

Watford haven’t won at the Bridge since 1986 but given the Blues form at the moment and the fact that they’ll be tired from a midweek fixture against Roma, we like the value in Watford here.

TIP: Watford to win either half - $4.33 at Ladbrokes (1 unit)

Huddersfield vs Manchester United (Sunday 1am AEST)

The Manchester United train slowed down a touch on the weekend as they drew 1-1 at Liverpool. They were thoroughly outplayed by the Reds, who maintained 62% possession and plundered 19 shots to Manchester’s 6. The Red Devils will get an easier matchup this week, however, as they take on Huddersfield who were beaten 2-0 by Swansea on the weekend.

After a surprising start the season, Huddersfield hasn’t secured a win in its last 7 games in all competitions and although they will be at home here against Manchester, it’ll be a massive ask. Manchester United have an away match on Thursday morning against Benfica but they are so deep at every position that their backups could have enough firepower to get the win here.

The red Devils are unbeaten in their last 10 clashes against Huddersfield and we like that streak to continue here.

TIP: Manchester United to score in both halves - $2.25 at Sportsbet (1 unit)

Manchester City vs Burnley (Sunday 1am AEST)

It’s been a while in the EPL since we’ve seen a team with the offensive dominance that Manchester City are displaying at the moment. They are playing like a Spanish side at the moment and it’s paying absolute dividends as they have won their last five Premier League games with a goal difference of 24-2.

They come up against Burnley this weekend who have been quiet so far this season, drawing 4 of their eight games. Burnley are undefeated through four games away from home but this will be their hardest matchup of the year so far.

The Citizens have lost just one of their last six matchups against Burnley but have failed to keep a clean sheet in all of them. They have been on an absolute scoring spree of late so it’s not hard to see them slipping a few past Burnley at Etihad this weekend.

TIP: Manchester City to score 4+ goals - $2.10 at Ladbrokes (1 unit)

Tottenham vs Liverpool (Monday 2am AEST)

The game of the round sees Tottenham hosting Liverpool on Monday morning. Tottenham have been great to start the season and currently sit third on the table with a 5-2-1 record. While Liverpool haven’t been as impressive, they have also only lost one game on the season but have four draws.

The Reds were dominant in their game against Manchester United on the weekend, maintaining all of the possession but just couldn’t find the back of the net in the 0-0 draw. Tottenham are at ‘home’ for this one, but Wembley isn’t the fortress that White Heart Lane was for them last year.

The Spurs are winless through their last nine games against Liverpool and the Reds performance on the weekend, albeit in a 0-0 draw gives us confidence in them here. The Spurs will also be on the back of a tough game against Real Madrid on Wednesday morning so could be a bit fatigued. We like the Reds to secure at least a draw here.

TIP: Liverpool double chance - $1.70 at Sportsbet (2 units)
