A quick turnaround with the Margaret River contest finishing up only less than a week ago with Hawaiian John John Florence winning the final with a crazy display in good size waves.
We head back east to check out the third contest of the 2017 WSL competition which is held at famous Bells Beach. The contest is looking to start Wednesday morning with swell looking to hit the shores for the next couple of days to get things underway.

Bells is a right hand point break that is capable of providing solid waves with long rides and perfect faces, as it makes its way towards the bowl section close to shore providing a close out to finish your wave. If we look at the history of Bells, in the past ten years we have seen one goofy foot take out the grand prize with the contest being dominated by natural foot surfers including Slater and Fanning. Over the years the aussies have controlled the contest at Bells with four surfers winning here in the past five years, with Mick Fanning winning three of these. Fanning has started off slow this year not making any of the finals so far, but could easily end this as he is well rested after dropping out early in Margaret River. Last year saw Matt Wilkinson win here over Jordy Smith, welcoming the title back to a goofy foot surfer. Wilko has started the year off similar to last year with a runners up in the Gold Coast and will be one of the favorites for going back to back this year. Owen Wright has began this season full of confidence as he won Gold Coast then backed up his efforts at Margaret river, unfortunately bowing out in the quarters against young gun Jack freestone. Joel Parkinson is another who has won this event three times and has surfed reasonably well at the start of this season with a quarter final loss on the Gold Coast.
All eyes will be on John John Florence as he put in an epic performance in the final of Margaret River. He was a man on a mission as Kolohe Andino didn't really have an answer with Florence putting together to 9’s to almost have a perfect score. The only question is John John physically rested after Margaret River only finishing days ago, or would have that inspired him to go even harder and take out Bells for the first time. His best result here is at Bells is a semi final result back in 2014. Adriano De Souza has been the best of the Brazilians claiming a victory here in 2013 and then grabbing a runners-up here in 2015 against Mick Fanning. He has picked up his performance after a round five exit in the Gold Coast to a quarter final exit in Margaret river to fellow countrymen Filipe Toledo.
To wrap things up will we see the two top surfers Florence and Wright go head to head as they lead the league or will the veterans like Slater and Fanning finally kick start their year off and remind the world why they were former world champs!
