Sydney racing comes to us from Rosehill Gardens this weekend where we have a 9 race program. The feature race is the Group 2 Expressway Stakes which is supported by the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes and the Group 3 Widden Stakes.
The track is currently a Good 4 with the rail in the True position.
Rosehill Racing Tips
Race 1
Some two-year-olds with big prices and big expectations here but there's nothing to suggest MENARI can't win again here. He trialled very impressively before his debut and won one of them in slick time, before winning very comfortably on debut. From the inside gate he will get the run of the race and be hard to beat. HUALALAI went down as the long odds on favourite on debut and went down as the long odds on favourite but his trials before that were good and he's since trialled in good style. $12 might be a bit of value.
Tip: Menari
Race 2
Tough race for the two-year-old fillies with a number of winning chances and no real clear standouts. ONE MORE HONEY looks a decent bit of value at the $11 mark after a debut win at Randwick on Boxing Day. The horse she beat has since come out and won, and she has won a trial in the lead up to this. Jay Ford also rode Teaspoon to her debut win so there may be a hint with him taking the ride on One More Honey. Barrier 1 should give her every chance and she is a decent each way bet.
Tip: One More Honey EW (Best Value)
Race 3
I think INVINZABEEL is the best horse in this race and he showed signs last start that he was ready to win again. He was unlucky when finishing just 2L from the winner and from barrier 4 he should have no such issue with McEvoy aboard today. Drops from 61kg to 57.5kg and should be ready to win.
Tip: Invinzabeel
Race 4
Two I want to be on here in the Highway Handicap. The favourite is MADAME DE BAN should be hard to beat with Hugh Bowman taking over from Josh Parr. She's finished 3rd at all four starts this prep which included a Highway Handicap last start where she was beaten half-a-length. She will get every chance to win here. The second horse that really interests me is DALMATIA PRINCE at $10. First up he was a luckless 4th in a Highway Handicap at Canterbury over 1250m. Steps up to 1500m here and although he draws wide, he looks a value chance given he should have finished closer in a similar race last time out.
Tip: Madame De Ban / Dalmatia Prince EW
Race 5
I have lost plenty of money on her in the past but I can't let AWOKE go around in a race like this without backing her. At her best, she is very good and Waller rated her on par with Foxplay last prep. For whatever reason she didn't show her best, but she did run a luckless 7th in a Group 2. The trial suggests she has come back well and if she brings her best form she'll go close. The 1400m first up is a slight query but she gets in with 53.5kg, draws well and $5.50 is a good enough price.
Tip: Awoke
Race 6
Looks a nice race for Group 1 Doomben 10,000 winner MUSIC MAGNATE who comes into this first up from a spell with two trial wins under the belt. First up last prep he won a similar race with an almost identical lead up so he should be very hard to beat here. The value could be the Snowden runner ATTENTION who ran within 0.2L of Winning Rupert at Group 2 level last prep before winning a Group 2 over 1350m. He's had a fair chunk of time out but has had four trials leading into this and $13 seems a decent each way price.
Tip: Music Magnate
Race 7
MONTAUK was backed last start and bolted in over this distance. He's struck another very winnable race here, gets in with a winnable weight and draws to get a gun run from barrier 3 so there really isn't any reason he can't win again. The interesting runner and perhaps the biggest danger is SEWREEL who finished 3rd in Group 3 company at her first run in Australia. She now steps up in distance, draws well and gets James Doyle on board so she is a live chance of winning here.
Tip: Montauk
Race 8
Good little race this with a few winning hopes. TOP STRIKER was run down on the line by Badajoz last start and it wouldn't surprise me to see those two fight it out once again here. I think Top Striker could turn the tables with the small weight swing and instead of carrying 59.5kg last start he only carries 58kg which could make the difference. He should be right up on the pace from barrier 5. The big watch is on Scarlett Rain who resumes for the first time since failing in the Golden Slipper last year.
Tip: Top Striker
Race 9
SEZANNE has all the weight to carry here first up from a spell but she's the clear class horse in the race and based on her latest trial she is ready to run a big race here. Barrier 1, Hugh Bowman and has finished in the top 2 at both her previous first up runs. Group 1 and Group 2 placed racing in BM76 grade makes her very hard to beat.
Tip: Sezanne (Best Bet)
