The 2016-17 A-league season continues over the Christmas weekend but the games will enter mid next week with no games played on Saturday and Sunday due to Christmas. Regardles, Round 12 of the A-League still shapes up to be a big one, we have a full preview and betting tips below.
A-League Round 12 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Roar were able to earn the three points on the road against the Central Coast Mariners but they were given a scare early in the second half. The Roar grabbed a goal at the midway point of the first 45-minutes and they entered cruise control. However, after the Mariners levelled the scores the side switched back on and they grabbed the winner through striker Jamie Maclaren.
Meanwhile the Wanderers took a 2-0 lead into the halftime break on the road against the Phoenix but they saw that evaporate as the Phoenix came back to level the scores. The Wanderers would have been happy with the draw heading into the match but it is a disappointing result considering the circumstances. They are struggling this season for consistency and their first half, compared with their second, is a perfect example. The Roar have been managing to do enough to earn wins this season and we think they will do it again in this one.
TIP: Roar to win – $1.95 at Sportsbet
Newcastle Jets vs Wellington Phoenix (Monday 5.35pm AEDT)
The Phoenix showed a lot of fight in their match against the Wanderers. They could have easily entered the second half and gave up facing a 2-0 deficit but they put together a great 45-minutes to level the scores and earn a point infront of their home fans. They will need to maintain that mentallity and play well from the start this weekend on the road.
The Jets will be entering this match on the back of two straight wins. The side has been a surprise this season and they are now sitting in fifth position on the ladder. Their injury troubles are beginning to be behind them and we believe the home field advantage will play its part in the side earning the three competition points.
TIP: Jets to win – $2.30 at CrownBet
Adelaide United vs Sydney FC (Monday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Reds season continues to worsen as they suffered their seventh loss in 11 games. The defending champions are a shadow of the side they were last year and a lot of it is to do with their new personnel. They let a lot of quality talent leave the squad while they barely replaced anyone.
Meanwhile the Sky Blues have begun to recapture their early season form as they have won three straight matches and in dominant fashion. Their attack produced four goals on the weekend and they remain undefeated and on the top of the league. We can’t see them producing anything other than a victory against the bottom placed Reds.
TIP: HT/FT – Sydney/Sydney – $3.30 at Sportsbet
Melbourne City vs Perth Glory (Tuesday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Glory’s slump in form continued on the weekend as they were once again embarrassed by Sydney FC, this time in front of their home fans. The side has dropped from being in the top three to sitting just inside the finals position.
Melbourne City’s up and down season continued as they suffered heartbreak against their biggest rivals in the Melbourne derby. City didn’t deserve a point in the match becasue they were clearly outclassed. However, the side has bounced back strongly from all of their disappointments this season and we are predicting them to take this one out.
TIP: Melbourne City to win – $1.60 at Ladbrokes
Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners (Wednesday 7.50pm AEDT)
The Mariners could be in for a long night in this contest as they travel to Melbourne to face the in-form victory side. The Mariners are struggling to find consistency this season and it is no surprise considering the inexperience and youth they have in their squad. The side is coming off the worst season in A-league history and while they have shown improvement, they continue to be outplayed in matches.
Meanwhile the Victory earned a huge win against City. It wasn’t by a big margin but it would have boosted the confidence of the team to defeat a top league side. They are now sitting in second position on the ladder and they are playing like the competition favourites they were at the beginning of the season. The side will make easy work of the Mariners but the odds aren’t enough to jump on them.
