It’s the race that stops a nation. The 2013 Melbourne Cup has arrived and what a day it’s going to be. The weather will be perfect, the track will be good and we’re set for one of the great spectacles of the year.
It’s been a great Spring Carnival so far for Before You Bet followers. The Melbourne Cup is not always the easiest race to pick, but we know that everyone likes to have a flutter!
We had a big collect with Fawkner on the Caulfield Cup, and Shamus Award was one of our value picks in last week's Cox Plate, so let's see if we can find a winner for you in the Melbourne Cup.
The top three we think are in with a big chance are as follows:
Dandino: Quality international runner who has a strong record and put in a superb run in the Caulfield Cup, coming from the back to fly home to take 2nd. With a longer straight at Flemington, if it gets out of traffic, expect it to storm home to be right there at the finish. Our top pick. Odds $13.
Fawkner: Some are questioning whether Fawkner can run out the 3,200 metres but we think that won’t be a problem. Has drawn well and speed maps ideally to make a big run at the Cup double. Odds $15.
Fiorente: Finished 2nd in the Melbourne Cup last year and has had a strong preparation this time around. Good barrier and with Damien Oliver taking the ride, certainly in with a big chance. Odds $7 .
Value runners to watch: Voleuse De Coeurs {Odds $17}, Dear Demi {Odds $21}.
Whatever horse you pick, make sure you gamble responsibly and only bet with what you can afford to lose. Good luck in the Cup and enjoy the day!
