NFL Week 8 Betting Tips
Jacksonville Jaguars at Tennessee Titans (Friday 28th October 11:25am)
The Tennessee Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars for Thursday Night Football. This is an AFC South rivalry game between two teams that are searching for some consistency. The Titans have already lost three times at Nissan Stadium this season and a loss to the Jaguars would be devastating. As for the Jaguars, they shocked me when they defeated the Bears on the road but they were back to their old selves last week against the Raiders.
The quarterback play for both teams has been well below average. They have already thrown 15 interceptions between them and have quarterback ratings below 90. Gun to my head I would still prefer the younger Titans QB. Marcus Mariota is only 22 years old and in his second season. In his defense, he doesn’t have the best receivers around him. The Titans will be chasing a star wide receiver in the next draft. Mariota does have one of the best running backs at his side. DeMarco Murray has already rushed for 633 yards and 5 touchdowns. In fact, the Titans own the 3rd best rushing offense in the league (averaging 143.4 yards per game).
Unfortunately stopping the run is one of the Jaguars Achilles heals. Not to mention giving up 26.7 points per game (ranked 26th). The Titans should get the win here but I’m concerned with the 3.5-point spread.
Prediction: Jacksonville 17 Tennessee 24
Tip: Tennessee Titans to Win & Under 46.5 - $2.50 at Sportsbet
Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (Monday 31st October 11:30am)
The Dallas Cowboys host the Philadelphia Eagles for an exciting Sunday Night Football matchup. This is arguably the most anticipated game to date. All thanks to the unbelievable quarterback play from Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott. The Cowboys lead the NFC East with 5 wins but the Eagles are hot on their tails with 4 wins.
The Cowboys-Eagles rivalry has been one of the higher profile rivalries in the NFL over the past 30 years.
The Cowboys had the bye last week and should be well rested. Especially the big fellas upfront. There is one reason why the Dallas Cowboys rookies are playing so well and that reason is the Offensive line. If you get a chance to take your eyes off the quarterback or running back, look at the size of the Cowboys Offensive line. Bruce Coslet the Cowboys Offensive coordinator said “I’ve coached some pretty big (offensive) lineman, but I don’t know if there has ever been a group with so many huge people. It really is incredible.”
Dallas lead the league in rushing averaging 161.2 rushing yards per game.
The Eagles pulled off a great home win against the Vikings thanks to their defense that is allowing just 14.7 points per game (ranked 3rd). However, their biggest weakness is stopping the run. The Eagles are currently allowing 102.7 yards per game (ranked 14th). Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz might take advantage of the Dallas secondary, that is allowing 266.2 yards through the air.
Dallas might give up some big plays but while that Offensive line is healthy they will continue to put points on the board.
Prediction: Philadelphia 27 Dallas 31
Tip: Dallas Cowboys Over (24.0) - $1.91 at Sportsbet
Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears (Tuesday 1st November 11:30am)
The Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings for Monday Night Football. This is the best NFC North team versus the worst NFC North team. Unfortunately for Chicago the Vikings will be entering this game very angry after dropping their first game to Philadelphia in week 7.
Offensively Chicago out rank Minnesota in passing Yards, rushing yards and total yards. However, Chicago is ranked dead last for points per game (15.9) while Minnesota averages 21.5. The Vikings offense comes from their defense. They allow just 14.0 points per game (ranked 1st) and they have no problem against passing or rushing offenses.
Jay Cutler has missed four games with a thumb injury and he should return for this game. I’m not sure if that is a good thing for Chicago. Soldier Field is home to a lot of UNDER games between these two NFC rivals. In the last five games the under is 4-1. It should be another low scoring game with high winds forecast.
Prediction: Chicago 13 Minnesota 21
Tip: Minnesota Vikings – Minnesota Vikings double result - $1.83 at Sportsbet
