Match Preview

It’s going to be a cracking game on Anzac Day as Fremantle hosts Adelaide at Optus Stadium. The Dockers, after a pretty disappointing loss to the Demons last weekend, will be looking to get their season back on track. They're sitting at 3-3, which isn’t terrible, but certainly not where they expected to be at this stage. Coming into the season, Fremantle were tipped to be one of the premiership contenders, but they've yet to really hit their stride. Sitting 9th on the ladder, they’ll be desperate to make a statement here and get back into the mix.

On the other hand, the Crows are flying high, sitting comfortably in 5th place with a solid 4-2 record. They’ve been one of the more exciting teams to watch, thanks in large part to their firepower up front. Averaging 109 points per game, Adelaide’s attack has been the most potent in the competition so far, and that’s likely to cause Fremantle a few headaches. The Crows are coming off a solid 18-point win over the Giants in tricky conditions, bouncing back from a couple of tough losses before that.

Both teams have made a few tweaks to their squads for this one. Adelaide gets a big boost with Josh Rachele returning from injury, and James Peatling back after serving a suspension. Unfortunately, Darcy Fogarty is out, which is a blow given his ability to be a big presence up forward. For Fremantle, they've made three changes, with Corey Wagner, Heath Chapman, and Quinton Narkle all coming in. Jaeger O'Meara is out with injury, though, which could leave a hole in the midfield.

Looking at how these two teams shape up, the Dockers have a lot of work to do if they’re going to compete with Adelaide’s attack. Fremantle has been fairly solid defensively but has struggled at times to put enough score on the board. Their forward line has been inconsistent, and they’ll need big performances from their key players to take the game to the Crows. Adelaide, meanwhile, has been clinical, with their midfield running things smoothly and their forwards taking full advantage of the opportunities. The Crows’ game style is fast and furious, so Fremantle will need to control the tempo and make sure Adelaide doesn’t get too many easy inside-50s.

Despite Fremantle having the home advantage, I think Adelaide will get the win here, even though they're slight underdogs. With their attack firing on all cylinders and the Dockers still struggling to find their rhythm, the Crows should have enough to overcome the hosts in what promises to be an exciting contest.

Michael Frederick 2+ Goals – Was quiet last week but had six goals combined from the two matches prior. It should be a high scoring game and Frederick remains solid value.

Josh Rachele 2+ Goals – Started the season on fire with six goals from the first two games before getting injured in Round 3. Returns here and is a nice price for 2+ goals.
