Match Preview
The Swans enter this game with a 0-2 home record in 2025, having suffered defeats to the Lions and the Hawks. Their struggles at home have raised concerns, and they will be keen to reverse this trend against the Power. They went down by 31 points to a rampant Pies side at Gather Round, struggling to go with the talented Collingwood midfield, who had four of the top five disposal getters on the ground.
Injuries have plagued the Swans, with key forward Joel Amartey sidelined due to a hamstring injury. Coach Dean Cox faces a selection dilemma, contemplating whether to include the underdone Logan McDonald or restructure the forward line with players like Tom McCartin, Joel Hamling, or Peter Ladhams.
Port Adelaide hasn't exactly been flying either. They’ve split their opening five games with two wins and three losses, looking hot one week and cold the next. Their best footy is still in there somewhere—they just need to find a way to bring it consistently.
Willie Rioli has been a spark up forward for Port, and was one of their best in the upset win over the Hawks at Gather Round. As the the Power lacking dominant talls up front, Rioli’s ability to hit the scoreboard and create chaos will be key against a Swans backline still trying to settle.
Defensively, Sydney needs to tighten up. They’ve conceded too many easy goals at home so far, allowing 96 points to the Hawks and 86 to the Lions in their two losses. If they let Port get a run on, it could be game over by three-quarter time. Expect plenty of pressure around the contest from the first bounce.
The SCG always throws up something different. It’s a unique ground—smaller, tighter, and faster. Teams that can adjust quickly tend to get the upper hand, so whichever side settles in first might grab the early momentum and run with it. Port seemed to have freed up offensively last week in their win over the Hawks so I think this could be a pretty free flowing game like we’ve seen in the two SCG games so far. Back the overs here.
