The long and gruelling NBA regular season continues on Wednesday, March 12th with a four-game slate that will see five potential playoff teams in action. The first of the games will get underway just after 10am AEDT, while the last of them is set for a tip-off at 11am. Washington Wizards at Detroit Pistons (11:00am AEDT)
The Pistons host the Wizards in a matchup between two teams on opposite ends of the Eastern Conference standings. Detroit has been one of the league’s surprise teams this season, sitting sixth in the East with a 36-29 record and within striking distance of the top four. Meanwhile, Washington has struggled throughout the year, holding the league’s worst record at 13-50. However, the Wizards have shown some improvement recently, winning four of their last seven games, albeit against weaker opposition.
Detroit has been strong offensively, averaging 114.7 points per game, and dominated Washington in their only previous meeting this season, winning by 20 points. The Pistons’ balanced scoring attack and strong play inside have helped them remain a force at home, where they have been solid all season. Their ability to control the boards and limit Washington’s transition opportunities could be key to another convincing win.
The Wizards’ main struggles have come on the defensive end, where they allow 120.6 points per game. While they have improved slightly in recent games, their inability to consistently stop opponents makes them heavy underdogs. With Detroit pushing for a higher seed in the playoffs, another comfortable Pistons win looks highly likely.

Milwaukee Bucks at Indiana Pacers (10:30am AEDT)
The Bucks and Pacers meet in a crucial Eastern Conference showdown, with both teams battling for playoff positioning. Milwaukee holds a narrow edge in the standings at 36-27, just ahead of Indiana at 35-28. With home-court advantage potentially on the line in a future playoff matchup, this game carries significant weight for both sides.
Milwaukee enters this contest on a two-game skid, though both losses came against strong Eastern Conference opposition. Prior to that, the Bucks had won eight of nine games, showcasing their ability to dominate when in rhythm. They have already defeated the Pacers twice this season, winning by an average of 10 points. Their combination of efficient scoring and strong interior presence makes them a tough matchup for Indiana.
The Pacers are also struggling, having lost three straight, with their recent form impacted by the absence of Tyrese Haliburton. Without their star point guard, Indiana has found it difficult to generate the same offensive flow that has made them one of the league’s highest-scoring teams. While they have home-court advantage here, Milwaukee’s track record in this matchup gives them a strong chance to complete a season sweep and further solidify their position in the standings.

Los Angeles Clippers at New Orleans Pelicans (11:00am AEDT)
The Clippers travel to New Orleans looking to extend their winning streak to four games as they continue their push up the Western Conference standings. Sitting eighth at 35-29, the Clippers have shown they can match it with the best when at full strength, and their recent form suggests they are rounding into shape at the right time. Their most recent victory, a thrilling overtime win against the Kings sealed by a Kawhi Leonard buzzer-beater, was a confidence booster as they look to build further momentum.
The Pelicans, on the other hand, have endured a nightmare season and sit 2nd last in the West with a 17-48 record. Injuries have plagued their campaign, preventing them from finding any sort of consistency. Their current four-game losing streak is reflective of the struggles they have faced all year, and with one of the worst records in the league, they will be looking for anything to spark a turnaround.
The Clippers have already beaten the Pelicans in New Orleans this season, and given their recent form compared to the Pelicans' ongoing struggles, another victory looks likely. With their playoff positioning on the line, the Clippers will be aiming to take care of business in this one.
