Perth Wildcats vs Melbourne United
Wednesday 9:30pm AEDT (Jan 22), RAC Arena
The Perth Wildcats and Melbourne United clash at RAC Arena in what promises to be a thrilling contest between two top-tier teams. The Wildcats have been on fire, winning five straight and nine of their last eleven games, surging to a 15-9 record. With three of their final four games at home, where they boast an impressive 8-3 record, Perth will look to keep their momentum rolling. However, they’ll face a stern test against United, who sit at 15-10 and have been excellent on the road this season with an 8-4 record, the best in the league.
United have also found plenty of joy at RAC Arena in recent seasons, winning eight of their last nine games there. Their defensive backcourt duo of Matthew Dellavedova and Shea Ili will be crucial in this matchup. They’re perfectly equipped to limit the influence of Wildcats superstar Bryce Cotton, whose scoring and playmaking are the heartbeat of Perth’s offence. If United can contain Cotton, it’ll significantly boost their chances of extending their impressive RAC Arena record.
The Wildcats have a concern of their own, with Dylan Windler ruled out after sustaining an eye injury early in their last game. Windler’s absence is a significant blow, as his scoring, rebounding, and versatility have been key during Perth’s hot streak. While the Wildcats are in the best form of any team right now, missing Windler could tilt the scales in what is already shaping up to be a tight game.
This matchup has all the makings of a classic. The Wildcats’ form and home-court advantage will be tough to overcome, but United’s strong record in Perth and defensive chops make them a dangerous opponent. With Windler out, I’m giving United the edge to secure another big road win.
