The forecast is for a little more sunshine on Day 2 of the Australian Open, as Adelaide runner-up Sebastian Korda takes on qualifier Lukas Klein for a place in the second round. Ace brings you his preview and best bet for the clash below!
Australian Open Day 2 Betting Tips
Seb Korda vs Lukas Klein
Approx 2:30pm (AEST)
Last week was the first time we had seen Korda on tour since the US Open, It was great to see him back and at a level somewhat near his best in Adelaide, however his performance in the final was by no means at the level of his other performances for the week. His serve numbers were down, including his speed, and it is hard to not wonder if he is suffering from some form of issue, perhaps with his side.
Klein started to establish himself a little more at ATP level in 2024, however he still needed to make his way through qualifying to take his place here in the main draw. It was a solid qualifying run, including a very dominant win over the tricky Terence Atmane in the final round (who I thought was a big chance of knocking off Klein). Although his ranking is outside the Top 100, he has put together some very impressive results at times, including taking Alexander Zverev to a 5th set tiebreak here last year, and wins over Kemanovic, Mensik, Etcheverry, Duckworth, Wawrinka and Hanfmann last year.
While it is great to see Korda back on tour and playing, I do have questions over his conditioning currently in terms of backing up from Adelaide and heading into the best of 5 set format in Melbourne. Klein is certainly a very respectable player, and has a serve solid enough to be able to match it with Korda.
I do like the plus game handicap here a little more than the moneyline.
