Brisbane Bullets vs Sydney Kings

Saturday 8:00pm AEDT (Jan 4), Brisbane Entertainment Centre

The Brisbane Bullets are set to host the Sydney Kings on Saturday night, marking their first game of the new year. The Bullets, currently holding a 9-10 record, will be keen to bounce back from two losses in a row during a demanding December schedule that saw them play eight games, including four between December 20 and 29.

In contrast, the Sydney Kings arrive with momentum following a remarkable comeback victory against the South East Melbourne Phoenix on Thursday night. Overcoming an 18-point deficit in the third quarter, the Kings erupted with a 38-point fourth quarter to secure a nine-point win. Point guard Jaylen Adams was instrumental in this surge, and he finished the game with 32 points and nine assists.

On the injury front, both teams are dealing with some problems that means they’ll be short-handed in their upcoming battle. The Bullets have four players listed on the official NBL injury list, one of which is James Batemon who’s been ruled out for the season and replaced by new import, Josh Adams. For the Kings, Keli Leaupepe will miss again with a hamstring injury, while Jaylin Galloway is out for the rest of NBL25 with a shoulder injury.

Historically, the Kings have dominated this matchup, winning nine of the past 10 encounters against the Bullets. On top of that, the Kings are 2-0 in matchups this season including a nine-point win in Brisbane (Oct 5), followed by a 12-point win in their most recent clash in Sydney (Dec 15). Xavier Cooks doiminated their first matchup with a 23/7/5 stat line that saw him named Player of the Game, while in their second duel it was Cooks again who led the way for the winners with 25 points, although Bullets star Casey Prather had a game-high 28 points.

Recent head-to-head advantage combined with their superior form makes Sydney the deserving favourites on Saturday night. Brisbane’s determination to turn the tide will likely see a spirited effort, but the Kings’ star factor and renewed confidence should be enough to see them secure another win. With that said, I’m keen to be with the Kings to cover the small spread for a couple of units.
